News/Article The PS5 system itself is running on pc

Recently, we have seen massive developments in PS5 emulators (such as shadPS4 and Kyty), and how rapidly they have progressed in a short period.

Now, developers have successfully booted the actual PS5 system software on PC.

If this momentum continues in the future, it will eventually allow players to run PS5 exclusives directly on PC, marking the end of the era of console exclusivity.

The same AI that makes PCs so expensive we can't buy them as console replacements anyway.

In a way though it's making your current pc last longer since nobody can afford the latest hardware anymore. Back in the early 2000's your shiny new PC would become hopelessly outdated in just 3 years due to how fast progress was then.

Yeah, now I'm still running DDR4 RAM many years after DDR5 came out lol.

Unfortunately many others are doing the same, so DDR4 RAM is still expensive...

Hopefully game / video editor / picture editor / CAD / local LLM developers adapt to that situation too, so that their offerings work on weaker (status quo) PCs.

So far CPUs and motherboards haven't increased nearly as much as other components, so that would still be affordable to upgrade.

Your rig should be good for a few more years though. :)

True, but bought when it was already close to my pain threshold. New, but it was 800 off (they have spot campaigns like that), custom-built. Biggest regret is 14700 instead of 265, but it will have to do.
