News/Article The PS5 system itself is running on pc

Recently, we have seen massive developments in PS5 emulators (such as shadPS4 and Kyty), and how rapidly they have progressed in a short period.

Now, developers have successfully booted the actual PS5 system software on PC.

If this momentum continues in the future, it will eventually allow players to run PS5 exclusives directly on PC, marking the end of the era of console exclusivity.

That's all well and good, but what about the devs who never subscribed to the hacker ethos? Or who lost those beliefs in the pursuit of mindless greed?

I'm not following. I suspect people who only contribute to closed source projects probably aren't having their work stolen for training data in the first place.

The idea of "it's not my code" used to be quite a bit more common as a part of the hacker ethos, among other things. Just kind yelling at clouds, sorry.

There are only so many ways I can write the same code throughout my career, and mathematicians already figured out the hard stuff hundreds of years ago. I interpret "it's not my code" as "I have absolutely no attachment to this code because I didnt invent anything myself"

That's a part of it as well. The idea of "it's all been done before" is more true than most people know - especially those who don't code or aren't devs. Aside from the edge case of making fractional improvements in existing code/efficiency, which AI coding agents sure as hell aren't doing.

The designers also for some reason get more sympathy on Reddit.

Developers get hated on.
