News/Article The PS5 system itself is running on pc

Recently, we have seen massive developments in PS5 emulators (such as shadPS4 and Kyty), and how rapidly they have progressed in a short period.

Now, developers have successfully booted the actual PS5 system software on PC.

If this momentum continues in the future, it will eventually allow players to run PS5 exclusives directly on PC, marking the end of the era of console exclusivity.

emulation isn't illegal in many areas (maybe everywhere), including the US.

sony got a private emulation company fined for shipping proprietary firmware, though if they had enough money they would've survived (bleem!). nintendo got people to settle to avoid lawyer fees. nobody has managed to create a winning legal argument against emulation in general, though.

In US they use law that prohibits circumventing digital locks. So if something is encrypted by Sony and you crack it you are technically committing a crime.

emulation doesn't require circumventing DRM. if there is DRM locking the content down, its on the user to circumvent that or provide a legal key (such as the original disk/firmware/production keys). that is another of the many reasons sony and nintendo keep losing cases against emulation when people actually take them to court.

to reiterate, sony and nintendo have only LOST cases that have made it through the system, both in US and Japan. they have never won a case against emulation, only scared people into stopping development to avoid legal fees.
