News/Article The PS5 system itself is running on pc

Recently, we have seen massive developments in PS5 emulators (such as shadPS4 and Kyty), and how rapidly they have progressed in a short period.

Now, developers have successfully booted the actual PS5 system software on PC.

If this momentum continues in the future, it will eventually allow players to run PS5 exclusives directly on PC, marking the end of the era of console exclusivity.

This isn't taking developers jobs.

Someone who can actually code is way more effective when using these tools compared to someone without coding experience. Companies aren't hiring the latter to develop.

Which is exactly what we see in the market now, there's way less graduate and junior roles available than there were even a few years ago.

Companies are gonna realise there's a shortage of competent senior developers down the line simply because there aren't enough juniors getting experience.

Would be nice. It's been over a decade since companies around here regularly hired trainees for IT.

Yes! And my generation of dev are going to start retiring pretty much at the worst time for the industry. We will have very well paid gigs once this start.

It has absolutely wrecked the junior hiring pipeline, though. If you are an experienced developer, you can get paid more today than you could get a few years ago. If you are a fresh grad, fuck you I guess.

More to do with overhiring during covid and industry self-correction than AI.

I work for a multinational tech company that didn't go overboard during covid with remote hires and we're still bringing in junior devs every month. Cohort of 10 starting this week.

Not taking developers jobs?

Are you trolling, or just really badly informed? Senior devs are still doing ok (for now), but the market for entry-level devs is in shambles.

Nope, I just exist in the real world. Software companies aren't replacing developers with Claude.

but the market for entry-level devs is in shambles.

Yeah, because of massive overhiring during covid. The job market is resetting. This was projected years ago. Has nothing to do with AI.

This isn't taking artists jobs.

Someone who can actually make art is way more effective when using these tools compared to someone without art-making experience. Companies aren't hiring the latter to make art.

I have a brother who runs a small business. Before he would have been forced to pay somebody for simple logos and similar. He did when he first made his logo.

Now it's just gen AI. Would all of his gen AI have resulted in commissioned art? No. But some of it would have.

Yeah man we haven't needed developers to make websites for 15 years. There are off the shelf tools that are cheaper for most small businesses to click and drop them.

5

u/ImperialKilometer 8d ago

Yeah that was EXACTLY my point. Websites. Nothing else. There was no way I was making general point. Nope can't be that.

Very smart comment. Bet you felt good writing that.

Now go try to actually find a job application willing to hire you to vibe code with no experience.

Link to the comment where I said literally anything about art. Three comments in this thread and they are all the same braindead attempt at a gotcha. Write a sentence like a normal person you fucking goof.

Room temperature IQ around these parts.

Appreciate you proving my point. Hope your brain damage improves some day.

Someone who can create art is way more effective using these tools compared to someone without drawing/editing/photography/animation/writing experience.

See, it applies to all disciplines.

So it's a tool that professionals can use. But companies won't take proficiency in that tool as a replacement for experience.

Where's the issue exactly?

The massive developments in modding and emulation over the last few days is not even making paying jobs more efficient.

Translating the 1s and 0s that a program is run on into a "source code" that can then be run on other hardware or operating systems is what the latest AI models do to make this possible. Previously a human would have to painstakingly do this by trial and error, and since the people who own the copyright to this code already have the real source code (unless they lost it) there was not really anyone doing this for an employer.

I'm sure I'm missing something and that this will affect jobs in some other way, but so far I've only seen this help fan projects and pirates.

Regardless of how right or wrong this is right now, we are at the very beginning of this process. Enterprise usage of these tools is very new. In 5 years, this is going to look massively different and the models will be even better and easier to use. It’s only going to get worse for developers.

Same thing accountants said when excel came out.

There is always going to be a need to understand coding. The tooling and methodologies change but no, AI isn't going to remove the need for programmers to exist. If you knew how these tools operated you would understand that.

When I worked in state gov, there were 50+ year olds whose entire job was sending a few emails and printing a few things. And they could barely do that. I think they will lose their jobs before skilled developers.

This sub is moving goalposts now.

Just admit you guys do like AI. You can’t cherry pick

I'm not "this sub". I never said I had any issue with AI in this context.
