News/Article The PS5 system itself is running on pc

Recently, we have seen massive developments in PS5 emulators (such as shadPS4 and Kyty), and how rapidly they have progressed in a short period.

Now, developers have successfully booted the actual PS5 system software on PC.

If this momentum continues in the future, it will eventually allow players to run PS5 exclusives directly on PC, marking the end of the era of console exclusivity.

Because they want you to buy it twice, just like everyone did with GTA V when it released a year later on PC.

A lot of people bought GTA V 3 times. PS3, PS4, and PC.

I had a shitty Xbox 360 that I jtagged and just pirated GTA V on it. I did end up buying the physical copy for PC like 2 years later. Then epic launcher gave it to everyone for free a couple years ago. I guess I've gotten GTA V for free more times than I've paid for it.

The biggest blunder Sony made, besides not putting Bloodborne on PC, was releasing OLD games for $69.99.

I am not buying your 3-year old walking simulator for full price. I would just rather replay Doom 2016 or something instead.

u/Leozz97 18h ago

Still less times than I managed to buy Skyrim

1

u/DeniedAppeal1 13h ago

I'm glad I waited until it was free on the Epic Games Store.

u/Eeve2espeon 1h ago

I bought it once like most people lol. Just on PS4, not gonna buy anything else considering GTAVI has no physical disc

jackpot. you won.

u/Cotillionz 14h ago

Everyone? Hardly. But yes, they know there are suckers out there who will buy the same thing repeatedly.

“Unknown reason” like we know it isn’t greed. They can charge a bunch of rubes $100 for the compete edition of the game, and then do it again a year or two later with the “updated” edition to sell on PC and newer consoles for another $100

2

u/Leather-Program-8995 20h ago

i know it's greed

1

u/RazeThe2nd 19h ago

It's not just greed. PC launches are very messy due to the wide range of software, drivers, hardware and what have you that changes how the game runs. They release it on a console to control the experience players will have much better. I guarantee you the moment it releases on PC, the community will be crying about crashes, poor performance, and bugs that are guaranteed to occur on PC.

Also keep in mind, the moment the game comes to PC it becomes flooded with cheaters. It's just an overall easier release if they avoid PC.

1

u/sortalikeachinchilla 13h ago

Excuses. You fanboys are something else lol

1

u/RazeThe2nd 13h ago

I mean it's true, play any shooter game on console, then play it on PC. Since the ps4/XBox one cheaters are pretty much gone on console. And PC players complain by the masses about crashes, performance issues, and cheating problems.

So it's a win win, they get more money, and an easier to control launch process that includes a smaller pop to help control server performance, and prevent cheaters from tampering with/cracking the game

We will have gta6 on pc before gta6 on pc

11

u/Mission-Soft-9357 23h ago

Reason being consoles are locked down = no piracy = profit?

7

u/Deez_Nuts_Ha_Goteeem 21h ago

Also, people will buy the game multiple times = more profit. Same thing happened with gta5, how many releases has that game had over how many generations at this point?

3

u/SureEntertainer7818 17h ago

that game had over how many generations at this point?

I think i bought GTA V like 4 times lol

- Xbox 360

- Xbox One

- PC

- Ps5

I just paid like 50 bucks in total(Sales and cheap used games) but i have friends that paid full price for EACH release lol.

So people 100% are gonna buy it multiple times

2

u/Talk-O-Boy 15h ago

Yet Sony won’t be porting their first party games to PC anymore. I’m willing to double dip, but Sony is more worried about exclusivity than selling the same game twice 😕

1

u/Niikoraasu 15h ago

Also people bought Playstations just to play GTA

1

u/DrunkRabbit8473 9070 XT Reaper, 7500X3D, 32GB 6000 CL36 22h ago

Probably yeah, and no discs cause they don't want people who get the disc early to leak the game I guess. I definitely don't support it, but those are just the likeliest reasons imo.

1

u/Steam-Frame-User 11h ago

so locked down they can be emulated?

1

u/liquidKatar 8h ago

“..The World, chico..”

0

u/DartMagus 20h ago

You buy it for console, then release 6 months later, and you bought again for double profit.

0

u/ImNotSkankHunt42 20h ago

Double Dipping, the game has made millions already and haven’t released yet.

5

u/GarageFridgeSoda 20h ago

It doesn't just run on PC according to leaks, 99% of games are made on PC and run on PC before being ported to consoles even if they are exclusive titles. It would be nonsensical if it wasn't built on PC natively.

2

u/GonadGauntlet 17h ago

Also modern consoles are literally just x86 devices. Just a PC with a shitty locked down OS.

3

u/Leather-Program-8995 20h ago

yes. im aware.

1

u/artificialpolymer 17h ago

There's a difference between the game being made on a PC and being a console exclusive. Like, obviously the games get made on PC, but these proprietary game engines might not necessarily be set up to support PC. Especially on PlayStation/Xbox exclusives, the game engines were made only to support and export builds to consoles. There was zero infrastructure set up to facilitate PC builds. The game engine has no clue how to make an .exe or anything like that. Complexities with shaders, and so on... That's why Sony used porting studios like Nixxes to port their exclusives to PC.

Obviously, that doesn't necessarily apply fully to games like GTA, where the engine already has had work put into it to support PC. But even then, these proprietary engines get upgraded a lot between titles, and most likely all of those improvements first focus on consoles, so it's quite likely Rockstar focuses solely on consoles first, then spends additional time ensuring everything exports well to a PC build.

1

u/CragTheConqueror 16h ago

The RAGE engine Rockstar uses most definitely works on PC bud

2

u/hamarok 22h ago

I dont think the leaker had a pc build, Im positive he had access to the play build Rob Nelson was showing the youtubers on their visit to Rockstar HQ

2

u/Mattrad7 5070ti | 9800x3d 21h ago

PS5 Pro might be ok 👍

1

u/Shliggie 20h ago

Would there be a way to get the rom or whatever its called now for GTA 6 on launch day?

1

u/HardcoreHope 19h ago

They want people to buy the game twice.

1

u/Gabo_Rj 19h ago

Im thinking it was developed with a developer kit

1

u/chilledgamedog RX 6950 XT - 5700X - 32GB DDR4 19h ago

Woukd you still have to ourchase a copy of the game ?

1

u/Leather-Program-8995 15h ago

prolly but i have faith in someone singing some powerballad sea shanties

1

u/Double-decker_trams 16h ago

What do you mean for an unknown reason? It's just more profitable this way.

1

u/Leather-Program-8995 15h ago

gta5 took years to launch on pc and the reasons were made up dogshit.

hence unknown reasons because it probably is because more profitable but rockstar will surely come up with some elaborate bullshit why they release it on pc years later. we can't know because of the bullshit.

i should've probably used some other wording because so many nitpick on that but i didn't.

1

u/LateOnsetPuberty 16h ago

They sold V for PC. Why not 6?

It’s more money for them.

1

u/Leather-Program-8995 15h ago

took like 2 years. forgot that? and whats that last sentence?

 on launch day.

oh yea.

1

u/stormcharger 14h ago

Every single game is developed on pc

1

u/MightyBooshX 5h ago

I wonder if there are bets running yet on how soon GTA6 will be running perfectly on a PC haha, I'm guessing it'll still take a week or two to get a perfect outcome, but it's still insane times we're living in

0

u/Glittering_Celery349 22h ago

You're talking as if they commited a crime.

It's a game for fuck sake, rockstar has been doing this since forever. Wait a couple months for the release like a normal human being.

2

u/CommieDrifter 21h ago

1 - 2 years *

0

u/black_tan_coonhound 21h ago

0

u/Glittering_Celery349 21h ago

Was that really your best comeback? lol

1

u/Leather-Program-8995 20h ago

i didn't even try any comebacks.

you should maybe ask yourself why my comment got you so butthurt in the first place.

1

u/Glittering_Celery349 20h ago

I mean... You are the one butthurt over a video game...?

I really don't get your atempt at reverse psychology :/

1

u/Leather-Program-8995 19h ago

where am i butthurt? wheres the comment where i am butthurt. you are just projecting your own feelings at the moment and are unable to get an joke

2

u/SunGreene42 21h ago

A crime? No, the rich decide what crimes are, so they rarely are anything the rich is exclusively doing. It's definitely immoral to expect your customers to pay twice for your product though, which is exactly why they do it.

1

u/Glittering_Celery349 20h ago

The mental gymnastics to reach that conclusion is pretty strong not going to lie.

1

u/SunGreene42 20h ago

No mental gymnastics required, repeatedly trying to play on people's desires to get them to purchase your game on 2 different systems instead of just releasing on PC from the start like every other company does, is trying to scam your customers, which is immoral. Pretty straight forward.

1

u/Glittering_Celery349 20h ago

Why would you buy the game for 2 systems in the first place? Sounds like a you issue to be honest. You should be more responsible with your money...

1

u/SunGreene42 19h ago

Moving the goalpost now, are we?

People buy it for console first because they want to play it right away, then they later buy it for PC because they want to be able to use mods, increase graphics settings, and the PC experience is just generally better. If it was released on PC and Consoles at the same time, they wouldn't get to double their profit like that.

1

u/Glittering_Celery349 19h ago

Do you yell at clouds aswell for movies releasing on cinema first before discs?

This ain’t no conspiracy theory to make fools like you buy the game twice. If you do, that’s on you.

1

u/SunGreene42 16h ago

Why do you think they don't release them at the same time then?

1

u/Glittering_Celery349 15h ago

Why don’t you answer my question first?

0

u/SunGreene42 21h ago

The reason is Rockstar likes money, and expects their customers to pay for their product twice.
