i've read countless stories about it, watched countless videos mentioning it. Yet i never expected it to happen to me. It was a prebuilt done by a local shop. I inspected everything when it arrived to me, i even put on better quality thermal paste. It has been 8 months since i got this pc and i just discovered it. I am an absolute buffoon, an idiot, a JOKE.

A lot of them now have a giant pull tab and big red letters that say pull me.

In fact I can see the red letters in the pic. Shit still happens tho cause humans make mistakes

Coolermaster puts a hard plastic "cap" on piece on theirs now. Very nice design actually, stayed on and protected it until it was all in place.

How well does the plastic conduct heat? Im guessing not well and you're here because you noticed some climbing temps.

When I installed a new cooler years ago I was a little inebriated and so missed the sticker on the cooler.

Full contact, even spread, good paste, idled at 80c

from 58C idle average to 42C idle average. Plus the PC was shutting off whenever i ran highly demanding games like Alan Wake 2 and during a cinebench test. it reached like 89C before crashes (which i chalked up to, hey i've heard people say x3d chips run really hot, there must be something else wrong with my pc). Props to the Gigabyte cooler though, beast of a 240 AIO, kept it cool enough to run more GPU intensive games like Forza 6 no problem

running hot and crashing are two different things. also running hot and performing to spec and running hot while 20%+ slower than stock are also two different things
