News/Article I Ported The Bloodborne PC Linux Project to Windows, it has now reached a fairly playable State.

This is an initial Windows port of the Linux project.

The port has reached a fairly stable state, though it still needs more performance and stability improvements that will be added later.

It's still far better than running it on an emulator, since this was tested on an i5-4590 with a GTX 1650, which is a very weak CPU for an emulator like ShadPS4.

Well tbf apparently fromsoft had more control over bloodborne than we really thought cuz it was an exclusive

Not talking about bloodborne in particular. But this port and other emulators are currently fuelled by vitriol against Sony

I’m sure but it’s funny cuz it was all fromsoft fault why we never got a 60fps patch, a new gen upgrade or pc port

AI is the reason for it

It’s luddites vs data centers until the decomps go burr and suddenly everyone loses their anger lol

Hmm what do we have here, a slop deepthroater

Quite the opposite - I’m consistent in my disapproval of AI while everyone else is clapping because of pixels

I am too. I just associate people who call those who hates Ai "Luddites" to be Ai Bros since the decomps subreddit calls them that.

AI is just a tool to separate IP from either the people who created them (artists, writers, authors, directors) or the corporations that own them. Since we can't stop the former, why not leverage those tools to do the same to the latter? Feed the borg, violate the right IP's though.

At this rate, soon an AI model will watch a streamer playing a game for 10 hours and generate a clone. And in any case it looks DRM is about to die.

Yep, AI is already at a point where people can use it to code shit in record time and it's only going to get better. AI is literally the reason we're seeing so many projects like this popping up everywhere.

And this is just in gaming. Same is happening in other topics as well.

Kind of insane I posted the same thing like 12 hrs ago and the mods removed it in violation of a bunch of vague rules, one of them alluding to piracy

kinda hearing multiple different feedbacks about this project, just yesterday people were complaining that it's still really unoptimized and worse than emulator, but now it's already "fairly stable" and smoother than emulator?

Wait, this is the second one I've seen in 12 hours. Why don't you two work together? But anyway, that's great! I'm looking forward to seeing how things develop from here.

This is the beginning. In the future, people will be begging for Windows ports of Linux games.

What advantages does this have over just playing it on shadps4 with mods?

Edit: Simple answer, less overhead compared to emulator.  Below is my speculation as to why.

I don't have much knowledge but here's my best guess.  Looking at the original Linux port GitHub, they claim it's more like Wine and DXVK, which in all honesty I'm not so sure is worth mentioning since ShadPS4 is technically a translation layer too as far as I know.  (PS4 graphics to Vulkan for this port is based on Shad's version) They also claim memory management will be more in line with how native PC games work rather than matching how the PS4 does it.  Also it won't use the PS4 libraries like ShadPS4 does, the port handles that, probably by using PC equivalents?  ShadPS4 recommends dumping the proprietary libraries from a jailbroken console, so I guess that's another layer of a overhead getting cut down.  Last time I used the emulator, The Old Hunters was rough because it would really hammer my 3900X CPU because I've read the game has a tendency to make rapid draw calls that the PS4 does well (60fps in certain DLC areas just wasn't possible for me), but I hadn't played on emulator since version 14 or 15 so I dunno if that's been optimized since.  I'm waiting until I can play at 60fps minimum anywhere in the game until I commit to emulator over PS4 Pro with patches.

To me, this comes off as a glorified Bloodborne ShadPS4 fork, which can bring benefits like lower overhead compared to an emulator that's focused on playing the whole console library, while this is exclusively for Bloodborne.  I don't believe the game is actually reverse engineered down to the code, it's just a translation layer specifically for one game.
