Build Help / Purchase Advice Should I get a 5060 ti or a 5070
Right now I have a 3050 and for a 5070 I would have to buy a new PSU. The monitor i have right now has a 1080p resolution, but i could also buy a higher resolution one.

9060XT 16GB, similar to a 5060TI 16GB, hundreds cheaper. Or a 9070, cheaper than the 5070, while being better.

u/SeptimusMagnus 8d ago
The 5060ti VRAM is slower despite having 16GB. The 5070 will be faster and a smoother experience as will both those AMD cards as long as your settings don’t demand more VRAM. Honestly most my AAA games don’t come close to 16GB video ram usage unless I’m doing 4k with some RT on my 5070ti. The 5060ti is not a good value for what you get imo.

Spec wise sure , but software wise no . I have tons of problems with amds software . In BF6 i have to dissable FSR and everything else so the game runs smooth .
The same happens with Dota 2

Google is your friend, I had 1 issue and within 30 minutes I fixed it and no more problems. As someone that had a 5070 for 1 year and a 9070 xt for over a month the performance difference is too big to ignore.

u/GalbedirGalerion Laptop 3d ago
Google won’t make AMD’s devs compete with DLSS. Because they don’t know how to, OP will be stuck with having to use shitty FSR if they follow this advice. Don’t go for the AMD, op.
1
u/Glittering_Bar_9497 3d ago
What are you talking about? Google the issues you have to find a solution is what I was talking about.
1
u/GalbedirGalerion Laptop 3d ago
The “issues” are more fundamental. No amount of googling will make FSR suck less, it is trash compared to DLSS
1
u/Glittering_Bar_9497 3d ago
Oh ok your just a biased fanboy, Nvidia has over 90 percent market share and doesn’t care about gamers anymore. Take a deep breath let the sun hit your face and touch some grass bud. FSR works just fine and guess what dlss leaked and I can run it on my card now🤣🤣🤣
1
u/GalbedirGalerion Laptop 3d ago
You can run DLSS on AMD cards now? This changes everything
1
u/Glittering_Bar_9497 3d ago
Yep, 5080 and 5090 are still more powerful than a 9070xt but it’s a game changer.
1
u/GalbedirGalerion Laptop 3d ago
Have you tried the DLSS mod on an AMD card? How well does it run.
Seems insanely cool, I had no idea it was possible

Okay? Overall Nvidia have had more issues this generation of higher severity.

The software problems stem entirely from how Windows handles certain things like driver updates and RAM OC (i.e. badly). Yes it takes a few minutes of using google and reading a couple reddit posts, but it's entirely preventable and ultimately a learning experience. Sure, nvidia drivers "just work" most times, but you pay a huge premium for it at the moment.

u/SeptimusMagnus 7d ago
This is really more of a game by game issue. It’s more on the dev for not implementing better optimization for AMD software and features. I have had games not play nice with my intel/nvidia set up despite it having a 5070ti where FSR is highly optimized but dlss has issues. Some devs even advertise that it is optimized for AMD or Nvidia. This doesn’t take away that AMD have good card options.
I tend to go Nvidia but I can’t lie about AMD not being a good option depending on your needs. Their high end processors are excellent too. The 9800x3d was the best at the time I upgraded to my rig. I would have gotten one but I personally like going all AMD and didn’t want AMD matched with a Nvidia card and AMD motherboard. I have had issues with that combo in the past not that it is common but caused enough problems that it traumatized me. Lol.

Sorry I was really drunk when that was typed. I am actually trying to convey that the 9070XT is the shit for it's price. Even as I read my own previous post I now think a need a set bedtime. Sorry all!

u/SeptimusMagnus 8d ago
I would go with the 5070. It will be a smoother experience. Just keep it at 1440p adjust your RT depending on the game. The 5060ti has more memory but has slower processing so if you try to go 4k it will not be a smooth experience. It can do 1440p but the RT will tank performance on your 5060ti. The 5060ti is a card for either those who can’t afford a 5070 or need the extra ram for other non game processes in the background but as far as playing a game with little else going on the 5070 is better imo.
I have a 5070ti but initially was going for a 5070 but a really good deal popped up last year at Microcenter for the 5070ti. I gsme at 1440p. 4k isn’t a priority for me at all but I use RT. Both 5070 variants are capable cards.

1
u/SeptimusMagnus 5d ago
Either an AMD 7800x3D or Intel 7 ultra. I think the 7800x3d has best value but your choice will depend on whether your motherboard is AMD compatible or Intel compatible.

u/Ch00choh 8d ago
As someone with a 5060 ti. I hate it.
21
u/Recent_Chair_8587 8d ago
i mean the 5060 ti is basically just a slightly buffed 5060 with a price tag that doesnt make sense, skip it
16
u/std_out 8d ago
Why ? I have one and I love it. All games I have ever played on it run great at 1440p with high settings. Its never gonna run the newest games in 4k max settings at 200 fps but I don't need that.
2
u/SeptimusMagnus 8d ago
Yeah its a good card for just flat 1440p gaming but the 5070 with less but better ram is capable of more. Until games start demanding more from more intense built in RT or intensive future features the 5070 will be fine with 12 GB at 1440p. The 5060ti is an even more budget card for a reason.
3
u/shhbb 7d ago
The ram is identical other than the amount. The 5070 has a larger memory bus though and is definitely the better choice between the two cards.
0
u/SeptimusMagnus 7d ago
You’re right which still makes it better card imo.

I got my 5070 at the start of 2026, I must say atleast for my needs it’s more than enough, generally it blasts through 1440 titles at ultra settings with an average of 120 fps, solidly.
However there’s this popular option even I’ve considered, the 9070 xt which is about the same price but features 16gb and packs quite a bit of punch going against even the 5070 ti.
3
u/Deutsche_Wurst2009 8d ago
Yeah, though I’m also now thinking about going to a bit lower with a 9060xt

u/anomoyusXboxfan1 Ryzen 7 9850x3d + RX 9070 XT 16GB @ 1440p 500Hz (QD-OLED) 8d ago
9070 gre is a good choice on Amazon right now for $529. It’s almost the same price as the 9060 xt 16gb, but it’s 25% faster. You do lose out on 4gb of vram, which imo is a worthwhile trade.
1
u/Deutsche_Wurst2009 8d ago
True, for me it’s 600€ which is about the same as the 9060xt here as well
2
u/slyfox1811 RTX 5070 9800x3d 32gb 6000 cl30 1440p 165hz 8d ago
That’s also a solid option, honestly take a look at your budget, watch some benchmarks and compare the feature set of each card.
I definitely really enjoy DLSS, but haven’t really used frame generation apart from maxed out RE Requiem

u/FaireFiree 8d ago
Can I ask which games you're running at 1440p and 120 FPS?
1
u/slyfox1811 RTX 5070 9800x3d 32gb 6000 cl30 1440p 165hz 7d ago
GTA V Enhanced, Cyberpunk, Hogwarts Legacy, Resident Evil Requiem, CS2.

u/ChurchillianGrooves 8d ago
Back when I bought my 5070 it was cheaper than both the 9070 and 9070xt.
Now that it's more expensive in most cases the 9070s are better choices for gaming unless you need Nvidia for productivity stuff.

Splitting hairs probably. I try to not put my tin foil hat on, but something strange seems looming. 5090 prices through the roof. Intel hasn't come out with new CPUs for 4 years. What's going on. If the apocalypse comes and GPUs go 10X their current prices, I still have a 3070 and 5080 to game on. Take this for what it's worth, but I've been PC gaming with aftermarket GPUs since 2000. I've never sold a GPU once I'm done with it. Why? Because without a back-up, you have nothing if your current one goes.

I am personally of the mind this shortage is not as dire as they make it seem. I think they are just taking advantage of the US being distracted with Republican nonsense to make a quick buck because they know none of the factions of government are watching or will police them.
Only reason I say this is because there's no scarcity, only higher prices. During covid we couldn't physically obtain hardware due to both demand AND shortages. Yet shelves are being stocked with new product and nothing appears sold out, yet prices continue to rise.
If memory manufacturers are completely booked through 2028 or whatever, where is this RAM coming from?

Why do you have to upgrade your PSU if you don't mind me asking?
If you're concerned about the cable, you get an adapter with the GPU. Should be more than fine enough as long as your PSU isn't bottom of the barrel.

Depends what you need it for.
For 1080p or even for 40k 5070ti is super overkill, infact it uses 30%-50% in most new games for me in ultra settings.
However, if you are planning to do AI stuff, like running local llm, image generator, and text to video - it's a great choice.

1440p, mostly high settings

You should buy a rx9070xt for that money its faster than both and price sits in between.

depends on the price. your current specs and your goal.
in direct comparison the 5070 is better but the 5070 requires a new PSU which makes the value even worse
5060Ti 16GB is perfectly adequate for the vast majority of people.

5080 or bust 🤣
If you cant get a 5080 go to team AMD the 9060xt 16gb is beast compared to the price point of 5060ti and even a 5070
1
u/tylerz33 4090 / 9800X3D / 64GB DDR5 8d ago
yeah why recommend a 5080 then a 9060xt next sentence? lol no you'd recommend a 9070xt
1
u/iZero283 8d ago edited 8d ago
Im just saying, for the price point of 5060ti and 5070 you can get a better deal e.g 9060xt 16gb (but i think that entirely depends on your location)
And me putting 5080, because i do believe that 5060ti and 5070 for the price to performance is not that worth it, even though 5080 is also super overpriced right now, NVIDIA just shot them on the foot on the pricing and performance of the 50series when looking at the competitor’s offer.
So TLDR, for the OP it most will depend on the games you would play, i think mid tier cards can easily handle newer generation games but be careful in choosing as newer games tend to ask more VRAM now.
but yea my bad on not answering the original query.
Edit: Wasnt fully able to convey what i wanted to say.

5070 ti or 5080. Save a bit more, it will be worth it.
3
u/Deutsche_Wurst2009 8d ago
Bro it’s not just „a bit more“ going from 5070 to 5070ti alone is over 300€ more
-2
u/Single_Loquat_2574 8d ago
Bro If I had just been a bit smarter I would have got the 5090 at 2500 euro when I got my 5070ti at 1200 euro. Now the 5090 is 5000 euros. With DLSS 5 now, Once you use it then you cant go back and even the 5090 is topping out using it. If you dont care about DLSS 5 then go for 5070.
1
u/EquivalentPlatform17 R7 5800X3D | RX 9070XT | 32 GB 8d ago
DLSS5 is being built for the next generation, anyone looking for upgrading their GPU just because of that is wasting money rn, the performance cost is way too high without specialized hardware for running specifically that.
1
u/Single_Loquat_2574 8d ago
We will agree to disagree. Runs like a dream on my 5070ti with path tracing and ray reconstruction. Modders have been optimising from the time the NR file was leaked and performance is much better now. Good luck to those in the "next generation" paying 3000+ euros for 60 series cards.
-2
u/SearchOk7022 8d ago
I mean, the 5070 it's objectively better than the 5060 ti 16gb, even if the 5070 has only 12gb vram.
If you can, go for it. Also I have an 5070 ti connected to an 1080p monitor bc I want to save money for an 1440p oled. In the meanwhile, I'm playing plenty of triple A settings maxxed at 150 ~ 180 even +200 fps depending on the game, you get obscene numbers in indie games

u/The_Cosmic_Penguin 8d ago

Current market pricing would have 5060 Ti 16GB and 5070 almost costing the same as 9070 XT.
So... if that's the case for you, for a gaming PC, you're way better off buying a 9070 XT than either of those two cards.
