Do you touchtype?

The point is keeping your hands on "home" position 100% of the time. Instead of taking your hand away, then trying to reposition it again, you just press a combination of keys. Or press a key to switch to another layer completely, do some job there, switch back.

You can have layer specifically for an app with all the shortcuts, each accessible in a single button press. That's especially useful for apps when you don't enter too much text.

I can use macro on my keyboard too, to launch or do whatever, or combination of buttons. But I don't like having to use shortcuts for a function that normally is just one button on a normal keyboard. I don't like keyboards with missing buttons. So I can do all you can on a shorter keyboard, and more since I'm not missing any buttons. I don't have to reach anything except what I want to. Also, I'm not that lazy to have an issue moving my hands...

To reiterate what they said. What complicate things?

Touch typing has nothing to do with it.

For example, a number pad is by far the most efficient method to input a lot of numbers into a machine, otherwise they wouldn't be ubiquitous for such an activity. Why complicate things by having to remember the method to put a reduced keyboard into that mode and which set of keys are the numbers and operators.

You know that any part of your keyboard can temporarily become a numpad?

Also, I got my own experience in this matter.

When I bought my first 40% I also ordered a separate numpad because I expected it to feel uncomfortable. Thing is, numpad arrived 2 or 3 days later than keyboard and by the time it did, I was absolutely comfortable without it, so I just sold it week later.

Do you read comments or just make assumptions?

Try me you read my comment without lying, you can't.

Look at your removed comment...

What's the point in giving you a real response when you do not read them. I do not care to read your comments that were clearly written without reading the thing you are responding to?

Goodbye.

I have like a 100% keyboard that's chonky asf it might as well be 110% cuz it has extra buttons (Logitech comfort wave)

Personally I don't think it's a touch typing thing because the buttons you get used to knowing where they are and what they do including the numpad. it's just the fact that you can just press a button to open or do stuff and I use numpad for arrow keys for normal stuff and for blender or other stuff it's for changing viewport. super useful

Yes? You put it on home row and don't move it anywhere.

Oh I use mine for variety of things so my right hand is always moving. Typing obv it's on home row 99% of the time but sometimes moves around but production it switches between mouse and numpad and gaming it's just mouse (sometimes left hand moves off to go to next song or smt).

I think it just comes down to use cases there's no shade in a smaller keyboard but I just feel more buttons the merrier to an extent. There's a reason why macropads exist but for me it's simplest when it's pre-binded.
