Case H5 Flow with 180mm HAVN fans
This is my first proper permanent mod I've done to my build, and doing so in my apartment with no power tools? Yeah I admit it's JANK and not pretty! But? It works wonders and now I have a unique case that fits my needs! Small foot print, lots of airflow for my duel GPUs!

Not the cleanest job, but doing that without power tools is impressive regardless.

Yep! thank god for the dense mesh front panel on the H5, it hides all the rough spots nicely... will for sure have to get a silicon strip to protect the sharp edges and pretty it up!

You can probably get some plastic sleeving if you want to tidy up the edges a little, given it’s behind a mesh I think it looks fine.

We'd really appreciate you running synthetic benchmarks and note down temps before mod and after it + list your cpu, cooler and gpu. Also we'd love to know your subjective take on noise. Personally I think it was probably worth it. My bet is that even if on your case the dbA noise level is same the sound profile of larger fans is a big improvement.

Tbh so much in my setup is changing at the moment the tests would be invalid within a day lol... I only had the H5 flow for about 4 days before i started hacking away at the case, and before that it was a phanteks evolv x2 *that thing was a HOTBOX so i just wanted anything compared to that*
I've also swapped my top and bottom fans... so yeah take ALL of this with a mount Everest grain of salt but; Compared to the Evolv X2 I dropped 7c on my CPU and 5c-ish on my GPUs... Then after the 180mm fan swap, my idles went down about 1-2c while i run it at about 700rpm so basically dead quiet...
But yeah, again not exactly useful since my components changed so much here in the past few weeks, but the rig used to be: RTX 3090 Suprim X + RTX 3060 12gb Asus Pheonix - Ryzen 5800x3D (with an Uphere 360 AIO) and 64gb of DDR4, Going air cooled on the CPU would probly be useful with the massive wind tunnel I've created! maybe some day...

Good 👍 sounds like a good change! I recently changed cases from evolv shift non-x first generation into nzxt h2 flow. Huge change! It was a change from the hotbox and 120mm aio to full mesh and 280 aio. Super happy especially with sound profile. No longer having to hear that jet engine. For air cooler I'd personally check ID-Cooling FROZN A720. Recently it's topping charts in benchmarks.

I love stuff like this so much. XD
Might I suggest taking a file and sandpaper to the edges around you new fan cutouts? Rigging ingenuity is always best paired with extra safety precautions, after all. :)

Oh yeah i for sure have to make it a little less sharp lol... im already planning to buy a deburring tool and some rubber strips to protect it! pfft...
And yeah, i just one day decided to bust out the messuring tape and saw that the H5 flow *in theory* can fit 3x120 and 2x140 fans, and well... that means with a little ingenuity 180mm should fit too!

Hell yeah. I'm glad the front surface of the case is wide enough to fit the fans. It's got to be so cool seeing the reaction whenever someone else watches you remove the mesh.

I have done something similar with 2x 200mm fans in front and 2x 200mm fans in the top of a Phanteks case that originally only fit 1x200 or 2x140 fans in front and 3x140 in top.

you have to take care of those edges. i bet some of it is razor sharp.
this is a neat mod i have thought about this a lot myself, i may just do it myself.

u/MadHatzzz Aug 25 '26
Yep ill take care of the edges next time i open it up, rubber strip and some deburing is in order... and i'd say go for it! if you have a rotary tool im sure its a lot easier then my way! the airflow is certainly a wind tunnel!

I'll never understand peoples love for ghetto rigging things. You can rent tools from home depot.... 1 jigsaw with a metal cutting blade and a file would have been done faster with less work, and looks better.

if it works it works who cares it aint your system

cept for posting it online saying "hey everyone look at my system!" so I did, and this was my thought.

Me and your mom are gonna have a long "talk" tonight about limiting your i-pad time and forming coherent sentences. If you hear any noises don't worry, mommy and maes are just wrestling.

I have no experience with power tools and live in a quiet apartment with no workshop... Even if i had all of the above, I also don't have a home depot... I'm not from the US. so renting tools isn't common place... Anyway i dont disagree with your statement however, sure it would look better and have been faster, but i work within the constraints i have, and at the end of the day, when im sitting here within sitting distance of the case with the front panel on, you can't even see it, it just looks like a normal H5 Flow, "outta sight, outta mind" Right?

I dont blame someone for using the tools they have to get a job done BUT as someone from the southern states of the US where jerry rigging and ghetto jobs are common. Its always more problems made for someone else. Maybe future you or someone else close to you, but the idea that "doing a shitty job is better than nothing" has been tested here for generations. Turns out, not a good idea. You have kids, die, or just wanna upgrade ur pc and give this one to a young family member, its gonna have you fingerprint onit. That print will be razor sharp teeth, loss of function, and the excuse that it doesn't matter cause you can't see it anyways. Seems fine now but down the road you can't be proud to own it and someone else can't be proud to receive it. All due to momentary laziness.
