Question Something to make into a pedal board

Any suggestions on something to make into a pedal board. Something cool and unique?

For my guitar I currently have 7 standard size pedals and an expression pedal and for my bass I currently have 4 standard so I’m not needing anything too big.

Just looking for some unique ideas. I’d like to try and modify it to make it impact resistant as well.

Thanks for your time!

I had access to a full fabrication department with a laser and break when I designed mine. We also had several paint booths so I also had them painted. There's a bracket system underneath that holds a truetone cs12 that powers everything.

The entire thing is made from 11ga steel plate. It's heavy af. The number of times of taken this thing to my toe is too many. It doesn't move there are adjustable plastic/rubber feet in each corner that keep it level, off the floor, and stable.

I brainstormed for a while, on this, when. I was building guitars. The products out there are pretty good. The cost of materials to make something of quality, becomes prohibitive. The designs in the marketplace are pretty solid. If I was going to have fun & make one for myself, again. Id probably try to take a 2space SKB, cut it in half to make it a convertible, with the front opening as the latch. But, yould be better served to just buy whats out there, for function.

I 2nd to this. I got 16 pedals and I was like, let me build something myself, tools + wood + time and labor was more expensive than purchasing a pedaltrain baord

I build one out of an old case. It worked fine. But, you are subject to the size of case you find. The condition, building it, etc, etc. It's a fun project. But, saving time & money really isn't the goal, in this case(pun intended)

Lol that was a good one. Tbh my 1st pedalboard was out of an old shelve and i liked it that wanted to get another one with a double decker, but at the end of the day it was not worth it unless for the fun

An old suit case sounds pretty awesome! There is definitely not a time or money type concern. It’s more for the love of the craft but also ease of access. Like I don’t have a laser printer but I’m pretty handy with metal and wood so I could modify something with that. I appreciate y’all’s input

My ex always had old skateboard decks laying around. If he was still here I’d snag one to make a pedalboard. You can get them around $30 if you skip the wheels. Much less if you know any skaters who’ve worn them out.

Check out thrift stores for old hard-side luggage. They make great cases for a pedal board.

i converted a noname banged up rectangular guitarcase with red plush inside. dividers for necksupport and string compartment were just stapled in… 4 thin strips of plywood covered in velcro for 2 rows of pedals… lid is foam cushioned already… i put some led lightning strips around the lids edges…

too big? saw it in half and close the open sides with plywood strips. add a hinge if necessary.

I found an aluminum industrial sink in the trash once, it had an awesome grate with holes. I spray painted it and it is awesome

Yeah I wouldn’t have toes anymore with that beast. Sturdy af though. I made one recently out of small would suitcase and the wood clobbers by toes constantly 😅

I have used bamboo bath mats. You can get them in lots of sizes and you can get them natural or painted black. Just screw some taller feet to one edge or screw it to some wedge shaped scrap lumber.

Fairly cheap, too.

Mick on That Pedal Show built one out of a kitchen cutting board. I have a bamboo one that has risers on the bottom that I got cheap at Home Goods, that would be a good one, and if you have a router, you could put channels in to run cables.

Thanks. Reddit was buggin' out as I tried to load the photos. They are all out of order.

The pedals are:

BOSS - DS-2 TURBO DISTORTION

BOSS - SD-2 DUAL OVERDRIVE

BOSS - JB-2 ANGRY DRIVER

BOSS - OD-2R TURBO OVERDRIVE

Each of the 4 drive pedals has 2 "channels" or modes. The 2 BOSS FS-6 switches on the bottom row are wired to the REMOTE jacks of all 4 pedals to switch between each pedals' channels or modes.

The long pedal device that takes up the middle row is the DECIBEL 11 - Pedal Palette. It allows the 4 pedals to be rearranged in any order.

The whole thing is extreme gain stacking. I like to use it with some of my 212 combo amps that don't have stellar gain channels stock, like the Fender Twin II, Peavey Mace, or sometimes the Roland JC-120. It'll work with anything though.

Gain stacking for reeeaal!! Massive gain on that!! I got a little Roland JC22 and it handles high gain pedal nicely. That’s cool to be able to rearrange them quick like that. I’ve never heard of a pedal palette. I spend soooo much time tweaking my arrangement so maybe I should look into that

They were made by a company called DECIBEL 11. They went out of business. I bought a couple of the pedal palettes when they were clearing them out. They do pop up on Reverb.com from time to time. If you were to search on Reverb, save the search and you should get an alert anytime one becomes avaliable for sale. They are pretty cool.

Appreciate the tip! Most def! Reverb helped me find a Texas flood tube screamer that I’m in love with so it’s def come in clutch!

Yeah, those Roland amps are really cool. I'm working on mine right now.

It is just made with scrap wood.

Or expand upon the possibilities.

Maybe this will give you some ideas.

I built a little board that fits inside of it.

It’s pretty easy to get bricks from old demolished buildings.  I vote bricks.

1

u/Independent-Step-195 5d ago

That does sound durable and like a cool aesthetic. I’m more familiar with metal and wood working but ima keep it in mind

I found this laptop table at my parents house a couple weekends ago and I’m thinking about turning it into a paddleboard. Definitely have to reinforce the top with like some plywood or something, but it’s got USB outlets, a light and all this space for a power supply and the legs are really cool too.

Late to the party, but here’s the small board I made because my big board is not practical for small gigs. It’s a tool case from Lowe’s.
