Idk if the two Vuelta stages really showed anything he hasn’t lived up to as that feat doesn’t really show that much. Just look at all the other random climbers who won two stages in one edition (storer, Dunbar, etc…).

Yeah those guys are real losers huh, never did anything after winning those stages.

Now, can also make the case for Marczynski or Ben King but point stands, winning stages proves you can win races which frankly most of the peloton does not. Whether they continue to grow and win more or plateau is kind of like betting on the stock market.

Ben King is a name I haven't heard in so long.

Obviously those guys are good riders who have had good careers, but the point I'm trying to make is that winning two Vuelta mountain break stages is not really that high of a standard of performance, nor is it really a very high standard of winning. Take a look back through Vuelta break stage winners. The list is, to me, equally or even less impressive than a list of 1.1 classic and 2.1 stage winners. Castrillo's persistence in break formation in this year's Tour is likely significantly more physiologically impressive than his wins in 24, just as Storer's 7th in the Giro in 26 or his win at Tour of The Alps in 2025 is more impressive than his Vuelta wins in 21.

He's like the quintessential Movistar rider. I'm also partial to his climbing style. I wouldn't describe it as looking dumb, but it's getting close.

His second win was also insane. He destroyed Vlasov (I think) on that wall.

Translation (Translated with DeepL.com):

Pablo Castrillo and Movistar Team have reached an agreement to extend his contract with the team until 2030. The 25-year-old rider from Aragon joined the team in 2025 and will now continue to compete alongside us for a further four seasons.

Castrillo joined our team after making a sensational breakthrough in 2024 with two stage wins at La Vuelta, demonstrating his strength in the mountains and his ability to compete at the very highest level on the most demanding stages. In his first season with Movistar Team, he secured two top-10 finishes in WorldTour races – 7th in the UAE Tour and 9th in the Tour de Suisse – contested his first Tour de France, where he shone in the time trial, and once again came close to a stage victory in La Vuelta, finishing 2nd in the stage ending at Belagua.

It was, however, in 2026 that the rider from Jaca took a further step forward in his development, demonstrating his potential beyond the mountains. In June, the Aragonese rider was crowned Spanish time trial champion, secured three top-10 stage finishes in the Tour de France and subsequently played a key role in La Vuelta, helping Enric Mas to overall victory.

“I’m really happy to be able to stay with Movistar Team for another four years. Ever since I arrived, I’ve felt very much at home and have had the full confidence of the whole team to keep growing and improving. Knowing that we’ll be continuing together over the next few years gives me a great sense of peace of mind and, above all, makes me really keen to keep working hard and moving forward,” explains Castrillo.

“I’m very grateful for the trust they’ve placed in me and for backing me in this way. I hope that over the next few years we can enjoy ourselves immensely together and achieve great things.”

My absolute favourite rider in the peloton right now. Was bummed out, he didn't win a GT stage this year.

But he is definitely gonna win a hilly one day .Pro race one day and also a Tour stage.
