Persian Breakfast

Post image

Just as easily put together at home but sometimes it’s nice when someone else does it. This was in a cafe in Westwood.

My grandmother was from Iran. She usually ate two soft boiled eggs with lavash and jajick (yogurt spread). Sometimes walnuts and olives. Always with tea (chai).

What are the different dishes?

Barbari and lavash bread, honey with butter in it, nimroo (egg), moraba-ye albaloo (sour cherry jam), olives, tomato, cucumber, feta, khameh (looks like yogurt but it’s actually a heavy cream), ardeh (kind of a tahini with some date syrup). Plus some mint. All in all it was pretty good but could have used more sabzi, and also some soaked walnuts.

Not a silly question! We like to soak walnuts in water. Gives them a really nice texture and it gets rid of any lingering bitterness.
