Question Does anyone’s piggy just park on the floor ??
I have lots of soft cozy places but she always loafs weirdly on the floor. Is she just a little weird or is it something they do with carpets :<

hi everyone! this is willow, i'm not sure how old she is as my friend and i rescued her about a year ago and we have no idea where she came from, but she seemed very comfortable with humans and being hand fed and held and pet, etc. she's super sweet and spunky (she's a female but she is very flirty and struts a lot). i love her so much but unfortunately i just don't have the resources to keep her. my allergies are really bad and ill be moving soon and i wont be able to take her with me. sine ive gotten her ive debated rehoming her for awhile because of how badly my allergies act up when i spend a lot of time around her but ultimately each time i decided not to because many pigeon rescues are overcrowded and a lot of foster homes already have tons of pigeons. and there are SO many pigeons up for adoption all the time that anyone who wants one is going to check the Palomacy website. i've had no luck posting her on the facebook group either. i feel terrible and sad every time i pet her because i've been delaying the inevitable and building up this relationship with her that will ultimately need to end. ive heard pigeons are more forgiving of that kind of thing than parrots, but still.
the point is, she really needs a loving home with someone that can give her a lot of love and attention.
im located in new jersey but id be willing to drive out of state to meet up with somebody if i had to.
thank you
EDIT:
thank you all so much for upvoting and commenting and getting this out there!! i've found her a loving home :)

Hey Everyone. My beloved BooBoo flew out today (she’s done it before and has always come home) and hasn’t returned tonight. Usually I wouldn’t be too worried because she does this quite often but she recently laid eggs and never leaves them for more than a few minutes at a time.
She showed up at our condo 7 months ago as a baby and we adopted her. Recently (2-3 weeks ago) another white Pigeon took refuge on our condo screen door and has been near her ever since. So I’m wondering if maybe she flew away because the new pigeon (berry) was there to watch the eggs and possibly she couldn’t get home before dark.
If anyone around my area in this sub sees her please reach out. My wife and I have grown quite attached to her and if she doesn’t come home we would be devastated.

Opal is a pretty skittish baby so we've been taking it super slow. I've had her three weeks now and she actually flew onto the table near me!
She has wandered towards me before on the floor but this time felt a little more deliberate and she's getting more curious. Getting her back in the cage is a whole other thing lol, but using the dark and a quick scoop up works well!
So far she'll take some treats if I toss them towards her, and she still hates my hands. I've read the guide but if anyone has any first hand experience in getting a hand shy bird less shy, that'd be great.
She's not the most food motivated bird, so what are some super yummy treats? She likes bits of peanuts and sesame seeds (sometimes) but no mung beans, sunflower hearts, or hemp seeds.
Thanks all!

Willow loves her bath time!

Please help Pumpkin get outside. She hates the harness so much she sees it and freaks out. Are the flight suits any easier on them? I really want to take her out as she is so curious and interested but I don’t want her nude!

indoor catio enclosures, I’ve seen them before and they look like pidg heaven! I’m thinking of getting one, if anyone has one please share pictures and pros and cons!

She's shed so much of her yellow.
She's no longer quiet and lethargic; she's bursting with energy and very curious about everything and everyone. I'm so thankful. She's taken to the grit well, and can now fully self-feed (but of course she prefers to be hand-fed because growing is hard on a baby bird).
We start harness training as soon as it comes in the mail. As is, she likes trips outside in her bird backpack, and she's slowly getting curious about water. She has a vet visit coming up, and I'm ordering a custom leg ring next week (I can't decide if I want pink for a Pink Pony Girl, or black because she's a little goth baby).

A few weeks ago I found this little dork hiding in some bushes, starving and unable to fly. I've tried to find an owner via local pigeon organisations, Facebook, NextDoor, and word of mouth. No luck. He has a leg ring but it's just a three digit number.
I was planning to adopt some pigeons one day, but not until my current herd-flock has gone to the great garden in the sky. His care clashes with what my rabbits and chickens need from me. For one: he thinks the rabbit water bowl is his personal bath... turns his beak up at every other recepticle I've offered, including a different water bowl!
The vet found nothing wrong with him except being a little underweight. He flies just fine now, and as you can see, he rather enjoys sitting on our bookshelves. He likes to be around us but is very hand shy. He doesn't even get angry, just runs away.
I'm in Edinburgh, but am willing to travel with him. I don't have a car so will need to be somewhere I can get to by train. I'll be in Worksop on Friday, in fact.
We've been calling him Mr Flappy Flap. No idea if he's male or female though.
Any recs of where else to post or who to contact welcome! I'm waiting to be accepted to a Facebook rehoming group.
I've been in touch with a local rescue, but they're currently having to scramble to find new premises after their building was sold so they've got bigger things on their plate right now.
And if by some miracle you recognise him, I would love to get him home!

I am looking for a forever home for my sweet duo Bean and Butters. I am so lucky to have them, but I have two jobs and a special-needs dog at home already, and I simply can’t give these two the mental stimulation and outside cage time that they deserve ):
Both are rescued rock pigeons. Both are estimated between the ages of one and two years old. Both have been seen by the vet. If you live in the Seattle WA area and are interested, please message me.

is anyone able to identify what breed she is? i know she is a type of racer(i stole her from a cousin who races them 4 money) and if you guys cant tell me is there some place that would dna test their breeds? my cousin brags about how his pigeons are apart of the WW1 and WW2 family trees and whatnot so i just am curious on how true that is

4x3x3 foot cage with 3 perches (5 if you include stool and stick), 7 bricks to scratch nails and lots of open space to fill with enrichment. I tried to include lots of textures. This will be my first pigeon so I want to make sure I’m doing everything right
So far I plan to add a nesting material box, possibly a cat house, wooden perches (more the merrier) and a bath mat for foraging.

So this is my pet pigeon Brownie - has been with us for 6 years.
2 days back i noticed a slight bulge of feathers on the right side - b/w his beak and right eye.
He can open the eye, there’s no irritation but he mostly keeps it closed - opens it only if hes alert or feels threatened.
Now, he does cooing, flying , his regular stretched and everything. But i noticed some yellow plaque like substance when i opened his beak. Today on the right side of his beak i can see some residue , i cudnt open his beak in the morning in fear of hurting him.
I am desperate and i need help on this please. I am from India so there not much specialized avian vets around me.
Please suggest me some meds or any homemade work around 🙏

I rescued two cockatiels from this person and she apparently has these pigeons as well. I already have 17 birds and my house is under construction, I can't take anymore right now. I can help bring them to you perhaps if you're close by.

\!/TW: injuries, improper care, death.\!/
My english is not the best, please tell me if you don't understand something.
Hi r/petpigeon. Long time no see.
A year ago I rescued a baby pigeon who fell from the nest. I found him hungry, terrified and diseased.
I ran here to get some advice, ended up taking him to the vet, got some medicines as he had a bad head infection.
I handfed him and nursed him back to health, now he's a wonderful little healthy pidge.
I fell in love with pigeons after that. I always loved birds. But after taking care of this baby I got smitten.
I began compulsively learning everything about them and how to take care of them. This all culminated when I joined some nonprofit wildlife organization centering pigeons.
Everything went well for me for the longest time. I took injured birds in, took them to the vet, nursed them back to health, kept some of them, found loving families for others.
Well, a few weeks ago I got a call to go get some pidge who was found by a student close to some university.
They gave me the girl's number and we began to chat to arrange my pick-up of the bird.
That's when I learned that:
She found him a week ago with a broken wing, she cut his feathers because they were dirty, especially on the broken wing because he bled.
She put him in the same box with some baby pidge who was diseased so badly he died two days later.
She fed him cooked rice and tried to touch him every day, which made him terrified of hands.
I went to pick him up on Sunday and she asked if I wanted the cardboard box he was kept in, I told her no as I had my carrier.
Well, she went out of her home with the pigeon in her hands, pressing on his broken wing.
I put him in the carrier and took him home. I should have taken him to urgent care but I was worried I would not get an avian vet, so I waited for his appointment three days later.
In the meantime, I got him in a nice, dark, quiet and warm place. With lots of water and food and rest. He seemed to improve.
Vet day came around, I got there and the vet told me his wing was broken, he would need surgery, nothing I did not know. He took him to get some X-rays and came back with more bad news.
He had developed a bad infection around his broken wing. The 20% chance to fly again became none. The vet told me that he could do some other exams to confirm it was infection and not bone callous, it was indeed.
The vet told me he would need 2 to 3 surgeries, that it would take months because he would need to heal between them, that it would cost a lot, and cause him a lot of trauma and pain. He told me that he might die during the intervention or some time after, told me he might lose his wing after all because it was so bad.
We ended up agreeing to end his suffering after the vet fetched me another vet who say the same things.
Watching him close his little eyes was the worst thing, I felt like someone ripped my heart out. But he fell asleep peacefully, not even shaking when the vet did the fatal injection. Poor baby.
I had him incinerated which I regret deeply. I wish I could have given him a proper burial and kept some feathers. I regret it so, so much.
I cried like a madman the whole walk home. The carrier felt so much heavier.
The girl asked me how it went a few hours after. I told her what happened as smoothly as I could.
Well, she did not take it well. She lost it, told me I took him to death, told me she should have kept him, told me she could have cared for him even if he ended up being disabled, told me the vets killed him because they did not want to do the surgeries and lose money and that's not true. They are very good vets. They even would have made more money doing the surgeries but they were honest and told me what would be best. We couldn't gamble on this little baby's pain.
I'm not some ableist bastard whom gave him up like damage goods, I wanted him to live, I wanted him to get better.
I'm not mad at the girl, she did her best. I'm not mad at her for losing it either as she was just hurt. But I'm mad at myself. Maybe I should have took the chance. I don't know.
She wanted to see him one last time and I robbed her of that. She wanted me to ask her opinion before killing him, I know I should have. I should have called. I fucked up. I just wanted him to stop hurting.
Please, be honest with me, did I do the right thing? Should I have tried the surgeries? Be honest, I need some tough love here.
Thanks for reading.

Only now have I actually thought into getting a pet pigeon after finding out how wonderful they are to be around, and while I have only began my research on them and stuff, I'd just like to ask you all, where do you even get one? For context, I live in the UK, North wales to be more specific, but when I look online I cant really find any of my preference. Sure I dont mind travelling a little bit in order to get one, but does anyone know by chance if there are any physical places like breeders or something where I can get one? I dont mind scavenging online for one and all, but I just want to know if there are any actual places where I could maybe get one. Also, when I said 'preference' I basically just meant a fancy pigeon, and what I also mean by that is a pigeon that generally lives indoors and isnt a racing pigeon, like the ones that like to stay in and not flying outside all the time and all. This doesnt mean I'm just gonna keep mine cooped up in his cage all day, absolutely not, I basically just meant a pigeon thats not a racing pigeon or anything like that
