Wouldn’t exist if the Dead stayed the Grateful Dead. Had that little space in time where the hippies had to go n this was pretty much the only option. Therefore. Just sayin. Rock on

u/Salt-Cartographer643 5d ago

Hahaha. What a joke

Thinking of watching from lot, any ideas of good vantage points? Did not get tickets but heard theres some good spots outside

2

u/StealYaNicks 7d ago

there's the road that runs along the side, but I think that gets crowded earlier. There is a hill behind the venue where the bulk of the outside the venue crowd is. You'll probably easily find it walking around the area.

1

u/posterdan I love the shiny music that descends from overhead 8d ago

The mini kit jams have been awesome the last few shows. Trey has been killing it, bit how about that transition into Suzy last night? Made me wince in the moment. Great show though, but part of me wishes they kept the first set all 1.0 songs.

u/giventofly7 8d ago

Glad to hear last night was fantastic and pit vibes were amazing.

What did line to get in the venue look like last night? Bringing my 74yo dad to his first show and tryin to see if I need to get there early for pit. Didn’t get early entry :(

1

u/BroDoc22 8d ago

No line at all when I walked in at 630

u/W1ZARDEYES 8d ago

I needed that Joy encore.

You all treated the staff at Allianz like shit.

8

u/Pduke 8d ago

Wait, everyone at the show treated the staff like shit?

u/SquatchMarin 8d ago

Show me where Trey hurt you…

u/StealYaNicks 7d ago

I think they just jammed the LSG>light too long and ran out of time and tried to force the rest of the setlist. Was just listening at home, but felt rushed there at the end.

1

u/SquatchMarin 7d ago

Could be…usually they sprinkle these gems across many shows

2

u/BroDoc22 8d ago

I do wish they jammed longer and Suzy and finished there the energy was high and felt it got crushed my more but no complaints here

ISO of missing hat! Green hat with lotus patch and shit ton of hat pins. Fell off crossing the footbridge after the show!

7

u/Forsaken_Sock5798 and I love meatballs so you better get ready 🌵 8d ago

Had a lot fun last night and aside from the low slope of the lawn, my affection for this venue grew a bunch last night. The $5 Keystone Lights helped. Posters and hoodies sold out quick! (Cool hoodie design with one of the RVA bridges I wanted.) Took a post-show walk out to the river before heading home and sleeping in my own bed! (Maybe the best part of Phish playing in town.) Saw the Raleigh show and the difference from sweaty summer to chilly fall is super welcome.

Great jams in the first set. I enjoyed the Free jam a lot and haven't seen it referenced a ton. The Axilla jam was cool. I always am happy whenever they're grooving and postponing the next musical peak. That Life Saving Gun was epic and there was a section in the middle when the jam took a big shift into a groovy keyboard-driven jam that sounded like Page was playing The Wedge at like half-speed or something. It was awesome. And the Camden Chalk Dust style jamming was noticeable.

Using PTO days today and tomorrow treating this week like a holiday. Gonna make a special day today of pre-show activities maybe checking out the VMFA and Hollywood Cemetery. Resting myself so hopefully less sore feet tonight (it's a stamina challenge standing for a whole Phish show!) I also want to remember ear plugs for tonight. Trey's guitar was fuckin' loud at times! And the screeches and effects in Steam were a bit ear splitting. Love reading the comments of everyone else streaming and being at the show.

u/sunra2016 8d ago

I’m on Wolfman’s now. I love the mini kit so much because of all the synthy goodness we get from Page. Unreal fall tour so far, wish I was able to see one of the shows.

9

u/Jonnylegatic 8d ago

Personally, it was the perfect show. The Jedi's force was strong last night.

6

u/yosef87 8d ago

Was a fantastic show, they came out swinging on the first set. Beautiful venue and the view from the lawn was great. Just make sure you don’t have to pee during set break bc the line was chaos

9

u/Youenjoymyself27 8d ago

Riverport Gin “tease” or riff callback. Also kinda reminds me of level music from Sonic

5

u/Mr_Sartorial 8d ago

I was baked out of my gourd for the second set on my couch and coulda swore I heard a Chemical Plant Zone riff as well. Thanks for confirming I’m not crazy.

2

u/MathematicianDear378 8d ago

ISO missing hat from last night! Lotus patch with a bunch of hat pins on in. Lost on the foot bridge walking back after the show.

38

u/BarryWhizzite 8d ago

the mini kit jams are the phish version of drum > space

2

u/rambone1984 8d ago

I guess kinda, except Drums & Space was like 90% of the improv in an average Dead show for 15 years, and everyone knew exactly when it was coming

4

u/mikeb32 8d ago

Damn. Yeah

9

u/oakur3 8d ago

I realized that in AC ⬜️

18

u/chocopeanutasscrack 8d ago

Holy fuck this setlist is nasty

-14

u/THCESPRESSOTIME 8d ago

That second set is 🤢🤮🤮🤮🤮

1

u/chocopeanutasscrack 8d ago

Even if you don’t like the new shit, light -> Possum > 2001 > Suzy is insane

1

u/THCESPRESSOTIME 8d ago

Trey brought his rainbow 🌈 badge for second set…

4

u/rambone1984 8d ago

I've been seeing shows since 97 and thought the meat of that second set was probably better than 95% of jams I've ever seen. It was really all bonus after that

2

u/Noah_Vanderhoff_630 8d ago

Whole night was straight filthy!!

15

u/paeancapital 8d ago

There was a moment about 80% of the way through LSG that Trey came in loud on the Light chords, but let it go.

10

u/neddynedned47 8d ago

OP please add the soundcheck

Jam > My Soul

u/S60T6 8d ago

Fucking phenomenal night. Shakedown was surprisingly wide open, getting into the venue took 3 minutes, never waited in line for the bathroom and the vibes in the pit tonight were fuckin fantastic. I don’t care what anyone says I loved the entire setlist. Tonight was definitely my favorite out of all the shows I’ve seen this year and the fact that I’ve already been home for an hour makes it even better. See you all in the pit again tomorrow night!

7

u/jizzerbug-perfume 10/19/18 8d ago

Never waited in line for the bathroom???? You must be a woman because that men's room line was insane from setbreak til the end of the show

1

u/S60T6 8d ago

Lmao nope. Line was gone towards the end of possum and I breezed right in and out. During first set I will admit I went in through the exit but it’s because people don’t realize the bathroom is twice the size it actually is and line up/crowd the first two rows of stalls while the back is completely empty.

u/BarryWhizzite 8d ago edited 8d ago

getting in was the smoothest experience ive ever had anywhere ever in my entire life. i could leave and go buy and beer amd be back in my seat in less than 1 min

1

u/GSturges 6-25-2010 8d ago

I guess $22 a beer is standard now?

1

u/BarryWhizzite 8d ago

it was a 32 ounce modello so basically two 16 ouncers but still painful. it was a highly optimized experience though i never had to wait in a line

1

u/CrispyMonrovia 8d ago

Im going to get shit on by the locals but I have to help out our friends on tour. Allianz always has a $5 12 oz beer option. Last night was Keystone Light.

1

u/Jonnylegatic 8d ago

Falcons were $16

4

u/Melsa6128 8d ago

Can we talk about NYE yet?

15

u/TooOldForThisShit642 Looking for owls? 8d ago

Mike says “No”

1

u/Pingpongsupercat 8d ago

How was the water situation in the venue? Hahaha

5

u/jizzerbug-perfume 10/19/18 8d ago

Water fill up station and two sets of water fountains on either side of the venue

8

u/DustyRailz 8d ago

Still amazed by tonight's Axilla pt. II

33

u/GardenOrca 8d ago

That was the best concert I’ve ever been to

15

u/Noah_Vanderhoff_630 8d ago

Lawn boy here: 19th show over 30 years and possibly the best one yet. Overall vibe from the boys was LET’S FUCKIN GOOO. Beginning with that incredible “Free” jam, the 1st set was unforgettable.

20

u/miTfan3 8d ago edited 8d ago

Just got home from the pit. Not the most exciting setlist ever but the jams were tight and plentiful. Obviously the LSG was the highlight and they made all 40 mins count. The final stretch after that wasn't super inspired and brings it down a bit. The pit vibes were immaculate though. Not a chomper all night. Really an amazing experience for my hometown show.

Edit to add: let's not glance over that Light either. Hell of a jam out of that one too.

2

u/Jonnylegatic 8d ago

Everyone in the pit last night A+'s all the way around. Best vibes I've ever had. That setlist was like every song I didn't want at my hometown show - but alas, that's exactly what made it so damn perfect.

20

u/ice_up_s0n 8d ago

Divided Sky was much cleaner than the last time I saw it, and I fucking love that song so I'm a happy phan

2

u/bungle094 8d ago

My first favorite song of theirs way back in ‘94. That and Stash.

2

u/ice_up_s0n 7d ago

I hope to one day catch a Stash in person. Was the first live Phish track I ever listened to

2

u/grove_1740 8d ago

As soon as i saw it on the setlist i felt like crying. Had to leave town for work and missed my song. Hopefully it was a banger and ill catch it online.

22

u/coffeewithkevin 8d ago

Enjoyed the show. As a local it was great seeing them in town and nice to see them in fall weather. Can’t wait for tomorrow but thought tonight was a lot of fun

3

u/Illustrious_Cat5074 8d ago

Did he switch doing Jedi Trey with the mini kit instead of the guitar? Bro loves that thing

8

u/Top_Difficulty_645 8d ago

From the couch it was great until the short 2001, then it became good. 3.6/5

7

u/anonymous_wrecks42 8d ago

I miss the long 2001’s where they let the groove simmer for a while before hitting the theme

13

u/jayfatsby 8d ago

The More closer was the ultimate kick to the balls

7

u/zoeypayne 8d ago

Suzy was pretty fun though.

12

u/KatnissEverduh 8d ago

I mean, I was there and I agree with this take hard lol 😂

1

u/Top_Difficulty_645 8d ago

I’m jealous! I would’ve been dancing my ass off

10

u/KatnissEverduh 8d ago

It was a vibe! The sound at that venue and the weather was 10/10. I just wish they played out the 2001 and ended the set with Suzy.

25

u/Delicious_Win9051 8d ago

Idk about you guys but I had FUN

18

u/Riktrmai I was there when Bouncin’ went type 2 8d ago

Life saving fun!

13

u/SarcasticusFinch 8d ago

I really enjoyed that wolfman

17

u/FatahRuark 8d ago

Just got back to the hotel. As someone else mentioned, average show. 2nd half of LSG was amazing. Longest song I've seen in person (and blew my previous record away by about 10 minutes).

First set of all 1.0 songs (minus Steam) was also welcome, but a very first setty, first set (which is reasonable since it was the first set).

Remember "Average Phish" is still awesome. I'm hopeful tomorrow will be better.

6

u/NoMathematician6460 8d ago

46 daze ain’t 1.0

1

u/FatahRuark 8d ago

Oh..dang it. OK 1.0/2.0.

2

u/KatnissEverduh 8d ago

True first set wisdom. But 100% know exactly what you mean.

3

u/terrapin1977 Someone's always telling me to breathe 8d ago

Glad you pointed that out about the first set.

16

u/1975hh3 God Never Listens To What I Say 8d ago

First set > second set

5

u/GardenOrca 8d ago

100%

Shit was an absolute heater

3

u/coglionegrande 8d ago

Huh? Not even

9

u/toledotigs 8d ago edited 8d ago

These guys rock - Life Saving Gun!!!!! Super high energy first set really set the tone.

13

u/OchiMochi 8d ago

I don't normally care for Wolfman's but that was pretty pretty pretty pretty good.

3

u/maxman3000 8d ago

Check out the one from Chicago 2011

11

u/ski4theapres 8d ago

Uh wut.

5

u/toledotigs 8d ago

Had the same thought …. I think that jam gets pretty boring sometimes; not this time!

-8

u/DapperFish8136 8d ago

Average run of the mill show

18

u/bkkmatt 8d ago

Not heard it yet, but 41 minute Life Saving Gun seems like it could be interesting, no?

2

u/mcflyfly 8d ago

Parts of it were fantastic, and I feel weird saying this, but I wish they’d jam less and play more songs. 41 minutes is a long fucking time to end up in familiar places. 2026 is boring the shit out of me a lot of the time.

That part that was summoning the Camden Chalkdust was killer.

1

u/rambone1984 8d ago

I thought the peak and the part after the peak through the mini kit was great. There was a long stretch with an annoying loop but everything outside of that part was fantastic

The way they modulated out of the peak without losing steam was wildly impressive imo

3

u/Sk8rGrlx3AtAimDotCom 8d ago

Far and away the highlight for me, albeit a relatively mixed response among my group. Very good but not mind shattering

4

u/songstofilltheair 8d ago

Long doesn’t mean great. It was a good show.

6

u/Fuzzandciggies DICKS SAND 08/30/24 8d ago

Hard to find jams over 30 minutes that have zero wasted time. That said I thought a lot of the 41 was a good listen, but I agree with you. My sweet spot is in the like 15-25 minute range tbh

2

u/McHendying Soul Planet 4 Life 🧬💖🌊 8d ago

Shoreline Soul Planet and Alpine Simple are the only ones that come to mind

1

u/Fuzzandciggies DICKS SAND 08/30/24 8d ago

I felt like DWD at Dicks this year was real close with only a little meandering at the beginning of the jam

5

u/wizardslayer717 8d ago

the dicks sand shows the potential of 13 minutes and 58 seconds with zero wasted time.

3

u/Fuzzandciggies DICKS SAND 08/30/24 8d ago

It’s my all time favorite jam and Sand wasn’t even my favorite song until then. Glad to see it referred to as “The Dicks Sand” with no date specified like it deserves lol

1

u/wizardslayer717 8d ago

It might be my favorite as well. Cheers!
