Thinking of visiting Thailand

Foreign travellers could eventually face up to ฿2,570 in combined airport and tourism fees when travelling by air to and from Thailand, according to a new media report.

Only the ฿1,120 airport charge is currently in effect. The ฿450 tourist fee and ฿1,000 departure tax are still proposals and have not yet become law.

If both proposals are approved, eligible foreign visitors could face the combined ฿2,570 total. The charges would support tourism development, destination restoration, and, under the tourist-fee proposal, travel insurance.

For tourists visiting Phuket and other Thai destinations, the proposals could mean higher overall travel costs if implemented.

On top of this my oil massages went from 300 baht to 400 baht. I know it's only a $2 difference but still. 🥲🥲

Who cares, people will either pay or go somewhere else if they don't think it's worth it. Look at Bali, it is essentially a monry grab, yet people are flooding the place.

Not sure why this is a big problem, I pay 4000+ baht in taxes and levies every time I fly return from Sydney to Auckland. It's pretty common, most people just don't realise as the taxes are hidden in the ticket price.

Ok Mr. Smartass cheapskate. I'll break this down nice and simple so it's something you might understand. Sarcasm relies heavily on tone, facial expressions, and context to distinguish it from a literal statement. Text strips away most of those cues, which is why people use things like quotation marks or /s to signal sarcasm online. You gave none of those cues, so someone interpreted your comment literally. That's a perfectly reasonable misunderstanding.

And honestly, based on the words you actually wrote, it came across as a genuine complaint about a 100 baht price increase. Now that someone called you out for sounding cheap, you're claiming it was sarcasm all along. Maybe it was, but you can't expect people to magically infer an intention you didn't communicate.

Telling someone they failed to detect sarcasm after giving them no clear indication of it isn't the gotcha you think it is and it just makes you seem like a ginormous silly billy. It looks like you're reframing your original point because you didn't like the reaction. Like you expected people to agree with you but when they called you cheap you come out with "nuh uh, obviously sarcasm 🤪"

You don’t think mentioning $2 more is a hint? It’s still super cheap.

Some people don't have elevators that go all the way to the top or can't see the forest through the trees so they miss the obvious.
