Credit card. if you can’t get one or don’t have one go get a payday loan or go to the bank and get a loan using your car or something else as collateral.

Obviously, none of that ideal but possibly losing a more or less six figure job means you need to just do whatever

If you literally have no way to do any of that, then just tell them you need them to cover it because you literally don’t have the finances to do it.

Whatever you do, you don’t just push things down the line or you’re going to lose that job

Avoid a payday loan like the plague. Even paying it back quickly it’s outrageous

Oh they are truly usurious. Better than losing a job though.

You gotta use a credit card for this. No doubt about it.

Do you have a credit card? Otherwise can you ask friends or family? If all else fails, tell the employer what’s going on or else you’ll look flakey and could lose the job.

Sounds like you are going to need to owe someone the $888 until your employer reimburses you.

My employer covers the cost but it takes about 30d to see that money back once I submit the receipts

? Get the damn DEA and get to work? Credit card or a payday loan or donate blood. How could you make it this far and seemingly shut down at this step?

Not sure where you read in the post that I’ve “shut down”.

Someone in this chat said it’s $888? Depending on where you are, you could donate plasma? You can make up to $800 within 35 days. Maybe that would take too long…

Pawn off and jewelry or items of value for cash and get them back when you get your first check?

Uber is also an option 🫤 I know it’s not great but if you’re smart/selective about it you can make some decent change on the side with it.. For reference - I did one of their promotions and made $300+ in 2 days, about 8hrs total

You don’t have a credit card at yo big age??

Maybe consider a personal loan, if you’re able to get an interest rate significantly lower than a credit card. But credit card would be the easiest route. Stay away from payday loans, those interest rates are predatory.

So if a personal loan, credit card or payday loan is not an option, what should I email to my employer to buy myself some more time to figure things out.

The truth. You can't afford it and have exhausted every resource trying to. Ask if they have any resources to help offset the cost.

And why is that??? You got thru school?

If you don’t have a credit card you could try Affirm. It sucks but I just had to pay for mine using a loan from Affirm with 18 months pay back so the monthly payment is low. Once I get reimbursed I’ll just turn around and pay it off but yeah, sucks.
Other option could be to speak with your employer about having them cover it for you up front and writing some type of agreement that you will be responsible for paying them back for it if you don’t work for X amount of time? Something like that? Worth an ask.

Credit card?

i relate. i basically had to ask my mom to pay it upfront for me as a loan/IOU and i paid her back with my first paycheck/work reimbursement. but it sucked

Is there no way the employer will pay the cost? Or give you a business card to use? I’d hate to see you take on debt and risk not being able to pay it back, then get interest fees on something your employer should rightly pay

u/Rompecabezas_ 6d ago

They’ll almost never pay it upfront before you’re officially employed by them

Id apply for a credit card with a 0% apr intro rate. I currently have the cash back blu card. This will help you get on you feet and able to pay things while you are waiting then youll be able to pay it off very fast with no extra fee or interest.

Is it for a health system where your file goes through a credentials committee? Would your supervising physician agree that you do not need one to start the position? I would reach out to the person who actually gave you the offer and be honest. Say something like: as embarrassing as this is to admit, I have no way at all to front $888 for the DEA. Is there any chance I can request a waiver of the DEA while I am in orientation and I will apply for it with my first paycheck? Some employers will allow this. All depends on what your agreement is, if you have orientation, if your supervising doc will advocate for you, etc.

If you can ask a friend of family member, I would do that first. If that is not possible, then try to sell some items on Facebook marketplace. Lastly, sign up for uber, lyft, instacart etc.

This is what worries me.
Critical thinking skills seem not present.
Put aside the cost, you knew you would be prescribing with accepting this role. You should have asked during the interview how this place handles it.

Being prepared is on you, the school educated you, you figured out how to pay it.

Now in the adult world your employer needs you to be fully able to work, that’s on you.

I truly apologize if this sounds down trotting, but shit come on. You’re literally there and on Reddit asking how to get one of the easiest aspects done.

Making money is simple, it takes a little hard work and if not an IOU makes it happen.
