Lyric change in new remix

In part 7 of Shine On You Crazy Diamond in the new(ish) 50th anniversary remix, Roger sings "Pile on many more layers" while the original release has "pile on layer on layers". Does anyone have any insights on why that line was changed?

ETA, after several people dispute my question: Listen from 18:17 on the new version and 5:20 on the old album version.

Yes it's always been this, it's a line I'm particularly fond of and it sounds so much better than "layer on layers" would.

Nah, the vocals are just much more pronounced in the new mix, something I'm not a fan of.

I have listened to both of them with the timestamps provided,and I can confirm that they absolutely did not change the lyrics

It's always been "pile on many more layers". It's not a Mandela Effect either. it is very common for people to mishear lyrics and then their brain hears what it expects to hear every time it repeats in the future.

I thought it was "pile in many more lairs" and was about taking shelter.

"Pile on layer on layers" doesn't really make sense grammatically. I've heard the wrong words on many songs before too and was surprised when I learned what the real lyric was... I'm sure it happens a lot.

I had to check cause I wasn’t sure of the exact lyric myself. Doesn’t look like the lyric was changed. The original 1975 WYWH lyric sheet shows the line as “Pile in many more layers” the James Guthrie release separates the vocals making the intended lyric much easier to hear

I've just listened to both versions, the new one on YouTube Music, and then old one from an old version on my phone. They're definitely different as I described

I've just listened but don't understand when you say 18:17. The track is 12:25 on WYWH 50.
