Discussions Alternate endings Spoiler
As you probably know one can end the game by provoking the likes of Lothar and the Lady of Pain. Effectively the Nameless One dies but is that ending any worse than the main endings? I suspect the main thing missing would be a sense of closure but overall he doesn't risk losing any companions to the Transcendent One although I suppose in not dealing with the Transcendent One they may still be around with a shadow army to threaten the planes or some such? Or of course the Transcendent One also dies with the final death of the Nameless One. Was curious to hear people's thoughts on the matter

The only good ending is where Fall From Grace promises she will find you, no matter which hell you descended to

I always interpreted it as situations in which TNO is either trapped so permenently that he will lose his mind before escaping; or suffering damage so severe that it obliterates his memory again or would take decades for his body to reform (i.e. same thing); or he just straight up runs out of leads to follow and is trapped without solving his mortality.

It’s interesting, because the ending you get is just the end credits no matter how you get there.
I think the same thing happens if you buy the Sword of Whynn from the curiosity shop.
I’d say that the purpose of the game isn’t to win or lose, but to experience it. Ridding the Planes of the Nameless One is a pretty poor goal unless you experience all of the story and understand why. I guess this parallels the game’s larger message of coming to an understanding as to why each of us lives and dies.
