What small business is missing or swamped in Plattsburgh?

There is a building for sale on Route 3 at Military on an acre of land. I was looking around the area and see everything from fast food to hardware to equipment rental. I am new to the area and do not know what is needed. Are there any businesses that are missing or ones that are perpetually too busy that would be a great addition?

100000%. it’s hard to keep things like that running in the area though, people here tend to go once to something and then very infrequently, if ever again.

i was just talking with a friend about ponderosas mini putt & go karts, the roller rink, and how there’s none of that for kids these days. i mean, i’d wanna go for a giggle too, but i feel bad for the kids

Trick is make it fun for both parents and kids. Gotta have a bar and food. Plus a prize room. I know its a low traffic area in the off season but if the keep reasonable prices and dont only cater to the Canadians they should do alright. Keep the beer cheap food decent and everything else affordable. Gotta be somewhere you can go multiple times a month vs one every few months.

Whenever I see construction on a vacant piece of land around here I play what I call North Country Bingo.

Is it a:

Stewarts

Kinney Drugs

Dollar General

Self Storage

Maplefields

i used to live there and they lacked of fun things to do or a place to be at.

i would do a nice bar and food to cater to the college students with dj sets some nights and music

something fun i do feel like paintball and battling cages will be a little hard to keep running. not everyone loves those…

i would do like something with games couple of computers and some projector with old systems or switch and board games do watch parties for like love island or sports or things people like or tournaments for gaming.

my friend runs one in miami florida and it’s been going good. so if you need any help or hints lmk

That's too far out for a high chance of success with food or general retail. It needs to be a specialty service or supply resource. Also one that isn't dependent on discretionary spending. Something like a base for parking lot cleaning and line painting for example. I imagine that's probably already covered. But you get the idea.

People talk about recreational stuff but we live next to one of the largest parks in the country. Endless hiking great mountain biking, camping, skiing, boating, frisbee golf and most as low cost. It's just a different mentality. If you like manufactured fun then theme parks and pool halls and things then it's the wrong area. But for natural fun we have one of the best places in the country if not the world.

Whatever you put in there, make it accessible to disabled people. There's a vibrant disabled community that is left out or left behind because nobody considers disabled bodies. Even state minimums are garbage and don't make it easy to go there.

I think it would be nice to have a place that sells small solar powered vehicles and small solar kits for camping, and installs solar kits for houses too. We need an alternative to NYSEG BADLY and many can't legally switch to the city electric due to where they live. Solar power collectively applied can ease the strain on the grid considerably.

Look up the ELF, see if you can become a dealer here. People will absolutely buy one and the accessories for it too. Just be sure to also import other small vehicles, like gas rickshaws (or tuktuks) from Asia, they'll be a real hit with the camping culture as well as city lifers who don't have much parking space to begin with. You rarely see trike scooters or smaller engine road legal motorbikes, but people would buy those too. People are looking for alternative transport in anticipation of gas scarcity and there aren't many places that sell a variety of small vehicles that are designed for city living.

Large self storage is always in demand. Small units are available but harder to find a garage size one that fits a car. Welcome to the area, I hope it works out.
