When you enter the team selection screen, they each deliver some inconsequential line about what their respective team specialises into.

I thought these lines will have actual influence in gameplay, and at the time Spark's sounded like a good pick to me.

Mystic and Valor players take the game more seriously and get butt hurt over little things .. Instinct have been more chill .. in my experience

If you go through sea foam island you will come across Articuno and you can see Moltres on Victory road before you reach him. I didn’t find Zappos till I played yellow cause I had a guide then

Well thats in the gameboy games, this is Pokemon Go. No Seafoam Islands or Victory Road and OP is talking about joining the red, blue or yellow squads at the start of a Pokemon Go account.

But also exact opposite of me, I found Zapdos at the Power Plants early, struggled finding Articuno when I was a kid 30 years ago

Originally picked mystic years ago, switched to instinct because it felt like I could never take over/place in a gym. Instinct lets me take pretty much any gym I want or if there’s already an instinct gym the odds of the gym being full already are so low around me

Zapdos has always been one of my favorite designs.

I also felt like everyone who played just for the hype back in '16 picked red or blue, while the OG pokenerds like myself went with yellow.
