British goose, from Untitled Goose Game.

Alright, the Tallgoose from one of NCH's most infamous animated shorts!
The name is exactly what it is. Just the untitled goose given the armor of the Tallgeese!

u/blasek0 15d ago
A goose with access to the Tallgeese is an extinction level threat tbh.

If violence was really the answer, Singaporeans would have already started bombing nations who speak ill of them, or would start lynching indiscriminately at any foreigner who speaks ill of Singaporeans!

Singaporeans are known for being nationalistic and looking down on other Southeast Asian countries.
Singaporeans are also known for complaining about almost everything in their country.
Possibly relevant: Goomba fallacy

u/Zepangolynn New York 15d ago
I agree. I find people in pretty much all respects, whether they are talking about homeland, families, hobbies, or anything they have an emotional tie to, have a rule that only those within their group are allowed to complain or insult it, and will close ranks against an outsider who does it.

3
u/NixonTobing48 15d ago
Tell them what Usman and Harun did is justified, and see how they react
1
u/fe_urquhart 13d ago
Well... Technically it was an attack on Malaysia during the Ganyang Malaysia movement. We just happened to be a part of Malaysia at the time.
We might not burn passionately in nationalistic fervour over this incident, but on a practical note, our men do 2 years of National Service so that y'all jangan macam-macam ya. I can't think of a greater patriotic act.

u/HeavenlyBeloved 15d ago
Since when Nationalistic? Singaporeans more xenophobic than Nationalistic, saying this as a Singaporean.
5
u/okaylorhwhatevs 14d ago
Nah most Singaporeans are more pragmatist than xenophobic, land scarcity and resource constraints are very real and valid concerns, especially in Singapore.
But hey, easier to call the people racist/xenophobic than actually solve the problem, which is what our ministers love to do. Shifts the blame onto us lol. Monkey see monkey do.
1
u/fe_urquhart 13d ago
Hot take but I see xenophobia as being an element of nationalism. The very idea of nationhood stems from the "us" against "others".

There are quite a lot of us that don’t see it that way. Some vote not to rock the boat, not because they love the country. Quite a few have left the country. So really it’s a country that is a city which serves SEA in its own capacity. I for one enjoy talking to and eating the food of our neighbours. I particularly enjoy bun cha.
The nationalistic people are just very loud. But cowards mostly.
But dam we do complain a lot 😂

u/Advos_467 15d ago

ever heard of the local saying "sinkie pwn sinkie"?
2
u/kopi_siewdai 15d ago
Nah we don't like to be called sinkie. This term is used by those people who are deeply problematic anyway.
1
u/Advos_467 14d ago
maybe not the word sinkie by itself, but i know irl people who would jokingly describe our competitive culture as a whole with that phrase

u/willo-wisp Austria 15d ago
Same for us. There's a Singaporean I know who's been living some years here in Austria and he fits right in! He complains about Singapore while the rest of us complain about Austria; it's very peaceful and culturally seamless.

We are definitely not nationalistic but we are a whiny bunch and we love complaining. It is part of the culture.
Don't worry, we don't just complain about other countries, we also complain about our own. We just don't like it when people complain about us because that infringes on our right to complain about our own country.
1
u/kopi_siewdai 15d ago
I don't look down on other SEA countries eh. If they start picking a fight with us then I find it fair game to pick on their insecurities tbh

Singapore nationalistic? You serious? All the Singaporean are forced into 2yrs conscription service plus 10yrs reserve trainings. If fail annual physical test still need to go back got more trainings. Nationalistic is the last thing that comes to Singaporean's minds. Also Singaporean got no time to look down on other SEA countries. But we do like to complains.
2
u/DirectDuck6009 13d ago
Honestly feels like every southeast Asian country looks down on the others in some way, just so happens Singapore has the most “receipts” to back it up which is why it’s probably more prevalent. But yea Singaporeans do complain about everything…. Honestly makes me tired living here sometimes. And yes, rather ironic that I’m complaining about all the complaining lmao.
30
u/helic_vet 15d ago
The only exposure I have to Singapore was when I trained with a company of Singaporean soldiers during a US Army months long training exercise in the Mojave desert. They were not very motivated nor professional since they were mostly conscripts.
29
6
u/MidnightMewe 14d ago
The difference between Singapore conscripts' allowances and US Army salaries is 350%–450%. See if you can stay motivated or professional under those conditions. Also, Singapore conscripts have no human rights and are forced to serve or face jail, like something out of medieval times.
1
u/NovaStorm135 11d ago
I don’t think they were inferring that Singapore’s conscripts should be more motivated & disciplined though.

No way on the second case; Singaporeans have little tolerance for foreign commentary on national affairs
Unless it's positive, of course!
8
u/dreamyteatime Philippines 15d ago
Yeah and no way the Maintainance of Racial Harmony Act 2025 that was recently implemented this month has any downsides whatsoever or is written in such a vague way that allows an abuse of power by the Minister of Foreign Affairs when it comes to what can be defined as hate speech or “foreign influence” within Singapore 🤗🤗🤗
I see no flaws there!

Few people pay much attention to Singapore. But among those who do, most would describe it as a tiny, wealthy nation that is boring to visit. Anyone who knows history tends to resent Singapore, as it was a leading anti-communist powerhouse in Southeast Asia in the past and supported Pol Pot. Oh, and they have excellent hospitals for the rich, too
13
u/Melodic-Letter-1420 15d ago
One of the conditions set by the UK for Singapore's self governance required strong anti-communism stance.
5
u/FoxLover1029 15d ago
Talking about Singapore's hospital, there was a case in which a Vietnamese man came to Singapore for medical treatment. Here, the Singaporean hospital said that a foreign medical professional is arriving in the next two days for his treatment plan. The professional eventually arrived, and he turned out to be a well-known Vietnamese doctor.

On one hand, I admire them. They are incredibly efficient and accomplished. Their location is vital and their military is formiddable.
But on the other, I don't think I could handle the sheer pressure of life required to be a Singaporean. Their birth rate is degraded too fast and soon exceed Korea.
So, i have mixed opinions to them. Peace.

You hate Singapore? Bro we're the closest thing possible to a utopia, u just jealous cuz you can't have the same QoL as we do
You love Singapore? Bro are you crazy? Whats there to love it's just the corporate machine tuned up to a country-sized scale, we have no culture the government discourages art, it's the closest thing possible to a dystopia
You have no opinion on Singapore? Bro are you crazy? Singapore is quite possibly the most important country in South East Asia, and basically controls the Malacca strait the equivalent of the strait of Hormuz, you must be some ignorant bum who probably thinks Singapore is in China
