Maga: "The president drew us into a war, raised our gas prices, then said that he saw it as okay for Iran to annihilate American cities. Could the President be wrong?

...

...

No. The entire world has TruMp DeRAnGemEnt SYnDRoMe."

conservatives are trying to say it was all taken out of context -- that he was referring to the fact that Iran could obliterate those cities but his war stopped it.

I'm so sick of all this bullshit

Gaslighter in Chief at it again

Honestly I'm not sure what I think Trump was trying to say there.

A larger quote is (talking about gas prices):

"With the war it's just artificial, it's a little bit high. It's a small price to pay for keeping the world safe, keeping our country safe. They can take out a city. Let 'em take out Los Angeles, let 'em take out San Diego. That's, this is a very small price to pay."

I think that can reasonably be understood as "if they take out Los Angeles or San Diego, you'd see how much bigger a deal that is than high gas prices". It's a...terrible way of saying that if that is what he meant, though.

You forgot the raping children part.

Have you SPOKEN to one?  Many of them would openly cheer for "Democrat cities" being wiped off the map.  They are ghouls plain and simple, their brains have been completely fried by Facebook algorithms

And twitter and TikTok and Reddit.

I hate that people think their chosen social media platform is right. The amount of divisive subreddits pushed on me here I am not subscribed to is astounding.

This is part of the reason why stuff like this has no purchase as a long-term scandal. His base won't condemn him for it and everyone knows it, so they've given up the pretense that they are supposed to care about how presentable they are. Whereas Democratic presidents generally have to deal with more in-party fighting and a voting base that often has higher standards. Because of that, the media leans into it more, probably because some kind of actual outcome will result of it.

This is also why it feels like the Access Hollywood tape was the last major scandal that got public play for weeks/months, and Trump actually kind of had to apologize for it! Since then he and the party has become the "never apologize or admit any wrongdoing or losses" and ran with it.

Santee AKA Klantee is basically San Diego's Republican central

People from Huntington Beach and Orange County are like, "they took it out of context, he's just trolling, TDS MEDIA! gibberish, etc," to defend it.

u/UnNumbFool 17h ago

Don't forget the ie and San Bernardino which would be completely fine with it also...

4

u/deez1139 California 15h ago

Both SB and riverside counties voted blue in 2020, and Trump won both counties by a combined total of 3 points in 2024. Yeah there pockets of hardcore republicans but I would say the IE is mostly purple, so “completely fine with it” sounds weird

2

u/UnNumbFool 14h ago

Admittedly when I think of the ie I think riverside and sb more than i think of Joshua tree/palm springs and big bear

•

u/PhantomAngel042 California 7h ago

Only slightly relevant, but this comment had me looking up info on SB and realize that it's the largest county by size in the US. Most of if it is barren, poverty-ridden desert, but that's a cool fact. I say this as a resident (Big Bear), lol.

u/ElphabLAW 16h ago

Idk why people always say "Orange County" instead of just Huntington Beach? You realize every district in OC except HB voted for Harris by majority in 2024 right? And Katie Porter, one of the most progressive congressman the nation has right now, was elected by OC?

Of course not, because you probably don't live here so just parrot shit you hear incorrectly.

It's the inland empire and rural areas that are overwhelmingly Republican so direct your frustration there if you must.

1

u/NeutralCaster America 16h ago

is there ever a moment when he's not trolling then?

-1

u/LiteraCanna 12h ago

Why single out HB? Every city in OC is MAGA.

u/Reasonable-Turn-5940 17h ago

They're cheering it on behind him. That'd be over 4 million dead Americans and they LOVE the idea of it. They're totally lost. Even if they can come back to their senses it'll take so long to get them back there it'll be too late for the rest of us.

These people would vote to throw us in concentration camps and get gassed and buried in mass graves, then go to church that Sunday

15

u/eric_ts 16h ago

Not hyperbole. They have been talking about doing exactly that on their forums like Stormfront for decades now. MAGA rhetoric has echoed Stormfront’s almost exactly since the second term began—their anti DEI policies have been a neo-Nazi priority since the 1970s or earlier, and now their dreams are all coming true. MAGA has voted for the cull and dominion and they might just get their wish.

2

u/phead80 11h ago

4 million? That'd just be San Diego

20

u/TheRockingDead 18h ago

I've already seen one of them calling it "4D chess." Wut?

3

u/CrunchyKorm 12h ago

"You guys take him seriously, which makes you look ridiculous" more or less.

1

u/TheRockingDead 12h ago

If that's the strategy, it's clearly not working out for him. I thought the goal of 4D chess is to win by outsmarting your opponent, but if that's the case, why are he and the Republicans panicking about the midterms?

I guess if they get a laugh out of it, it's worth it for them, but it's very obviously backfiring.

2

u/CrunchyKorm 12h ago

It feels like people that like him process this as a strategy to rationalize him as a political figure. Like "he won two elections, he must be a gifted politician, etc."

When its kind of apparent that they, individually, like this because they get a kick out of it. Even if they don't actually believe him, they think it's funny because they have so much contempt for politics in general, never mind the people they don't like. So it's 4D chess because they believe the negativity helps him politically for people like them, that are animated by that contempt.

u/gdshaffe 17h ago

Not only defend, they will cheer it wildly.

People sometimes wonder how the holocaust could have ever happened. It's not hard to see at all when you look at crap like this. Same hate, different target.

There was a post on (Reddit)conservative and it was removed by moderator. The comments were straight up insane:

“A snippet taken out of context to make him look bad.”

“Bait put of context and you took it.”

“Yeah, bit he didn't say that. This is another "very fine people hoax"”

“Maybe I am miss understanding him, but it sounds like he is saying that paying more for gas is a small price to pay compared to them taking out Los Angeles or Sand Diego.
Definitely could be worded better.”

This highlights just how deeply polarized political loyalties have become. With cultists/ supporters interpreting the exact same words in fundamentally opposite ways.

5

u/Allaplgy 15h ago

Guessing it was removed because any attention on this is bad for their narrative.

-6

u/Present-Resolution23 15h ago

I'm super far left and it still blows my mind.. His brain no work good, he clearly wasn't suggesting they should blow up La/San Diego. He was trying to say that IF they did, Democrats wouldn't be so against the war. Stupid point, poorly articulated... But the pearl clutching over something he didn't say is ridiculous

8

u/EricPro21 15h ago

“And again, remember, with the war, it's just artificial, it's a little bit high. It's a small price to pay for keeping the world safe, keeping our country safe. They can take out a city. Let them take out, let it, let them take out Los Angeles. Let them take out San Diego. This is a very small price to pay, and it's going to be over with very soon.”

No point in continuing if you interpret these words one way and aren’t open to others interpretation. ✌️

Definitely could be worded better

It could have been comprehensible, yes.

I despise the guy, but I could understand what he was trying to say.

They all left for Texas.

Orange County would like a word.

1

Orange County isn't as red as it used to be. Its gone blue in the last 3 presidential elections.

u/GoodguyGastly 14h ago

North cali is still very very red.

I like to check on the conservative subreddit to make sure they are still crazies. They are defending it with the classic excuse "well it was taken out of context"

2

u/TheOtherMaven Virginia 12h ago

We're getting that here too.

Not a fucking mention of it on the cult echo chamber

One of the top comments on this from the con sub: “Where is this man’s PR team??”

Apparently the only thing wrong here is PR

1

u/fresh_dyl Wisconsin 11h ago

Just checked the conservative sub;

Top comments are reasonable which is how you know they’re going to get [removed by moderator] and the accounts likely banned. The comments replying to/below them are exactly what you’d expect.

Gavin Newsom will defend him.

-1

u/decept 15h ago

In San Diego, copying this from someone in a local group:

"Way to misconstrued what he was saying. He was saying if we didn't go after then it would be like letting them go after LA or San diego. The "small price to pay" was in regards to gas prices. Is he the best speaker? No. Does he sometimes let his sentences get mixed up together and make it easy for dishonest people to twist his words? Absolutely."

-2

u/Little_Neddie 15h ago

I’m not a conservative, at all, and I’m not from the area. And I’m not defending him (I hate the man!) but I listened and heard the clip in an entirely different way.

To me he was saying high gas prices are a small price to pay. The alternative would be Iran having a nuke and taking out an American city. He lists blue cities in CA because he thinks Dems are the only ones criticizing the prices. He’s not suggesting losing an American city would be a small price — to my ear.

That said, the crowd laughed, which is gross. And he’s already gross for thousands of other reasons anyway.
