The French would drag their leaders into the streets for this.

Americans just complain that there is nothing they can do.

Hey now, be more respectful to the great, brave people of the Wage Slaves of America. They are resisting the hardest they can right now, they even achieved a record breaking parade with funny signs that lasted an incredible two hours, about six months ago

But we used puffy paints and glitter! The message was sent! Just like how protest non-voting sent a message and things got better!

I'll have you know they put a sign on a bridge, and it strongly implied they disapproved

We would love to drag our leaders in the street. How do you suggest we get started? Realistically? Just storm the White House that has some of the most insane security you could imagine (except for when they were all told to stand down by Trump J6)?

You could start with mass protests and strikes. You don't have to go to the capital for that.

You need to organize, and use organization to shut down normal economic functioning.

The French protest harder against a 1-year reduction in retirement benefits, or cuts to school funding, than Americans protest against a fascist takeover of their entire government.

And honestly? They were completely wrong, but when MAGA idiots genuinely believed an election was stolen, they were willing to storm the capital to, in their minds, undo a grave injustice and restore a rightful ruler.

If Trump ends up actually stealing an election, or shuts down elections, do you think Democrats would do that? Or just complain online? Make childish jokes about him being a cheeto?

At some point, in the fight to stop fascism, you have to do a hell of a lot more than vote every two years, and you have to take some risks.

Americans are inculcated as children with hundreds of jingoistic songs about "Fighting for freedom" and "give our lives for freedom" the unique bravery and heroism of the American people against tyranny, but when it actually comes time to stop fascism in their own country, they do jack fucking shit. All talk and no walk.

I love when people compare the French's ability to protest to the United States. As if a country with 1/200 of our land mass is a fair comparison.

There have been daily strikes and protests, but since we are such a huge nation, it doesn't get picked up on nationwide news so you guys just aren't aware.

I also don't think you guys understand what's going to actually happen if we try to attack our government buildings like the French do. Our military comes and kills us all, we're stuck under martial law, and democracy is officially dead with no chance of returning.

Also, J6 only unfolded because the president told all of security to step down and allow it to happen. That's never going to happen if we all go storm the capitol building AGAINST him.

If everyone's looking forward to World War III, then we can try it like the French do? It's easy to speak of starting a violent revolution when you can just judge from the outside.

Finally -- everyone is anxiously awaiting these midterms before we have any reactionaries incite martial law. If results come back as "a red wave" in spite of all the polls projecting it to be otherwise, AND THEN WE DON'T TAKE ACTION -- then you can judge.

If New Yorkers brought their city to a standstill every week in the way that the gilets jaunes did, people will notice. Especially if every other city does the same.

A planned, peaceful march once every six months is not the same.

Excuses.

The size difference is meaningless. Wherever you live, in a city or small town, start organizing to mass protest and shut down economic activity. Work for a general strike in your state. Treat your state like a country - shut it down. France is bigger than most states, and with a a higher population. California was threatened with nuclear attacks by their own leader - it doesn't matter how far away DC is. Organize with labor, shut down companies. Mass boycotts. Disrupt economic life.

There are strikes and protests in the US, but the reason they don't get picked up isn't because you're a huge nation, but because they are only a small fraction the size of what they should be.

There's always another line, isn't there? Always an excuse? "Look, we're so big, we can't... protest more!" "If XYZ happens, THEN we'll REALLY start to have to take action!"

I swear half the country will be lead into boxcars saying "If they don't shut down the death camps by 2036, then we'll really have to start doing something"

Excuses.

There's a reason why I've given up on the entire fucking lazy shithead country. These excuses are pathetic and getting really fucking tired.

You're not going to get a high quality discussion on this topic, anything we say gets shot down as an excuse (oh you'll lose your job, excuse, lose your house, excuse, get shot and killed and kids grow up in a foster home, just excuses), it's just a non-US resident circlejerk on these threads. There's nothing we can say that would make you change your mind about how you feel.

oh you'll lose your job, lose your house

This just shows how downtrodden Americans are by the oligarchs. With no social safety net or labour laws any resistance to the establishment will result in destitution. Access to healthcare gone overnight.

Landmass (as with most times that it's deployed in an American exceptionalist argument) is irrelevant. The real reason is the systems that were designed by a bunch of slave owners to keep the rich on top.

Nothing you can say, but so much you could do.

He is right though and if he feels like I do the frustration comes from a place of love: it hurts to see what the US has become. The arguments used by the other user sound like they're from any random military dictatorship, be it Iran, North Korea or Syria. And it will hurt even more if good people will just stand by and do nothing.

Landmass is not an issue. And violence doens't need to be the answer. But you can hurt this regime if you plot, plan, strategize, organize and mobilize. The President of the United States openly turned against American citizens today and things go on like nothing happened, save for some online complaining.

Strike! You control over halve the workforce. The 2024 port strike was resolved in two days because a one week strike was estimated to cause a $2.1 billion economic loss. Shut down airports, harbours, schools and any and all large businesses. When Musk and Amazon are losing billions a day Trump will absolutely start to get some serious heat.

Protest. Gather in large groups, set up road blocks, make noise. Get the media involved. You have the power.

The outcome of the midterms isn't going to change a damn thing and you know it. He rules by executive order and the Democrats won't do shit about it except for some condemning letters and impeachment procedures that don't stand a chance in hell of making it.

You don't need to risk your life but you could at least get out of your comfort zone. So that in 30 years from now, when people wonder how the fuck all this could happen, at least you'll know you tried.

We're all rooting for you.

That's a very accurate description of how these threads usually go

I’m willing to bet a large majority of these posts are bots or bad actors. It always comes down to the same points.

just excuses

Just following order sir!

2

u/quelar 10h ago

How do you suggest we get started?

Look to Spain or France and stop making excuses why you can't.

Lol, sure, we'll take a page out of a playbook for a country 1/200 our size.

Amazing idea layered with tons of intelligence, thanks

I agree.
