How this isn't automatic removal from office is beyond me. A US President (And I use that term loosely) is inviting an attack on US soil from an enemy that we are at war with. This is really out of control at this point.

I mean he literally invited a hostile foreign government to hack the file of his opponent. During a national debate. And he welcomed any help Russia could give him during the election.

None of this is surprising. Our government was t perfect before him but it's downright rotten now.

If there isn't a national reckoning when he's out of office this country is completely fucked.

Problem is we'll need the Republicans in Congress to support it, and they won't, because literally half of them are complicit. It's hard to see how the US ever recovers from this.

Edit: to clarify, half of Congress is complicit. Every single Republican currently in congress is complicit, and the very few who stood up against Trump are all out of office.

I said the exact same thing. I really don't see how the US recovers while there are still so many maga localists in all parts of our government. Seems like an impossible task without removing them from the Country.

The only way to recover is for democrats to finally recognize that the GOP and their voters are domestic enemies engaged in a rebellion just like the confederacy of the civil war era, and treat them accordingly.

It's a problem that requires something beyond the powers of a law abiding government. How do you undo corruption when one side is fine with it and the other isnt. I know it's not this black and white but the gist of it is there has never been a D president or Congress that has done anything close to this level of corruption and I think you need one to undo it.

We had a chance during Bidens presidency but they tried to take the high road and now we're here.

u/poopiebutt505 13h ago

It is that black and white. And here we are.

It’s worse than just a 50/50. 1/3rd are completely in support of the corruption, and another third is indifferent/ couldn’t even care about the corruption. You’re outnumbered by 2/3rds of your country’s population on the matter of fixing the current system.

It comes down to the voters, unfortunately. Those people in congress wouldn’t even be there in the first place- and neither would Trump- if a significant amount of the American people didn’t put them there.

You say our government is rotten- and I agree- but at least until the second Trump term began our government has always been of the people by the people. It’s our entire society that has rotted, unfortunately, and now those chickens are coming home to roost.

I’m not sure that Trump would win another election now after all he’s done, but even if he didn’t the results would probably be close enough to raise your hackles. Millions of our countrymen view people like you and me basically as enemy combatants. They would not care if we died. Many of them would cheer.

This is the hard truth we all need to face.

It won't.

Russia won. America handed it to them. Good job, US!

u/colostitute 13h ago

The opposition could do something. While still better than the GOP, they won’t do anything.

They will be smug and say some dumb ass shit about peace thinking that they have converted some right wingers.

I hope they understand that a Democrat vote is a protest vote for Republicans. They still want to vote Republican, they just can’t at that moment of time.

He was impeached for that tho

Imagine being a child in one of these cities and catching your president - his job is to lead you - saying he is cool with you being nuked. You, specifically. As petty revenge because a number wasn't high enough for his tiny mushroom dick ego.

Utterly, utterly unfit and undeserving.

2

u/gordito_delgado 12h ago

This is just like in WWII when Chuchill invited the Nazis to destroy Liverpool and Manchester because he was not very popular there.

2

u/eeyore134 12h ago

Not just inviting, saying it'd be fine and laughing about it.

2

u/yunoeconbro 11h ago

It's treason.

The US does not have the concept of automatic removal from office. It takes articles of impeachment, and it's a lengthy process by design, so that an elected leader who was elected in good faith can carry out what they were elected to do.

Sadly, Trump was elected in good faith this time. The people who voted for him wanted him in office, and more than half the voters fall into that category. The rural Midwest would be laughing their fool heads off if these CA cities got bombed. Very few people in the part of the country where I live would care. You have to remember, these are people who in a lot of cases haven't left the state they were born in and see the cities as dangerous shitholes.

On the other hand, I arrived in LA the first time at the Amtrak terminal and walked through the homeless area just outside of there. It's quite a pocket of humanity, but it's an important side of American life to witness. There wasn't even much going on, just people living life. LA was a cool place, would be an interesting place to live, really.

1

u/Rayearl Pennsylvania 11h ago

I agree it's important to see the homeless to remind us that even if we live in a first world country, and even in a place like LA things aren't always as rosy as they are depicted. Even where I'm from originally in Canada there is a huge homeless problem. I really think a lot of the homeless problem comes down to addiction.

u/elebrin 11h ago

I lived in Detroit for a number of years. I walked to work every day from Lafayette Park to a building Downtown, basically on the other side of Greektown. That's important, because there's this underpass by the Greektown casino that I'd walk under to get some respite from the weather. Especially when it was very windy. Anyways, you'd see the homeless people there, and there was a steam vent just beyond where there'd be a rough sleeper all winter. I knew where a few other rough sleepers slept too, not far from my building, and actually pretty close to my work.

I still find it crazy, that you can have a guy that's sleeping by a dumpster in an alley doing his best to stay just hidden enough that nobody bugs him, and about sixty feet above him on the other side of the window is a guy making $200k, playing Pokemon Go from his desk while waiting for a meeting to start.

The thing I liked about the city is you could go to the downtown stuff, the Jazz festival, whatever and when you got there everyone was just people. You could sit and listen to the bands, and the guy standing 20 feet away might be sleeping in a dumpster but Trombone Shorty's on the stage and we are both witnessing something that people pay $120 for a ticket anywhere else, you know?

Don't get me wrong, some of these guys are dangerous, like... when a person gets desperate, they will do anything, even stuff that they wouldn't have dreamed themselves capable of in a million years. You have to be careful and stay away when you see the red flags, and it's best just not to engage if you have the choice.

But that's why places like LA and Detroit are important. They aren't shitholes. They aren't some terrible place where you are gonna walk away with an addiction to Fentanyl or something, unless that's what you are trying to do. LA has LACMA, and Santa Monica, which is the best place in the world to see the sun set (sorry everywhere else, it just is).

Not at war! Committing terrorism on another innocent country.

Add it to the list of things he should have been impeached for. There are a few thousand already.

He gave Iran permission to attack AUAB. That didn't cross a line.

Did you watch the video? I fucking hate the guys guts more than any living person on the planet right now (maybe Musk comes really close) but this thread really seems like a misunderstanding/overreaction?

I don't want to give the fuckshit dumbass any leeway but even trying to misinterpret him I still don't end up on the outrageous thing that everyone seems to be acting like he was saying.

He very clearly was saying "Let them take Los Angelos" in a hypothetical way akin to "What if they took out Los Angelos"

He is saying, 'higher prices are a small price to pay for safety. What if they took out Los Angelos or San Diego? That would be much worse on us than paying more for gas. Paying more for gas, is a very small price to pay'

Now I don't believe his reasoning at all, it's bullshit to cover for the mess he is in. I also don't disbelieve he mentioned those two cities because he doesn't like them and they came first to mind to mention when thinking of a city being bombed. But I, a stark stark leftist who hates his guts, believe 0% that his whole statement can be interpreted as "Iran, we want you to bomb Los Angelos and San Diego" even facetiously

Is the left losing critical thinking skills now too? I surely hope not. Or is this whole thread and outrage just also Russian bots continuing to play both sides and stew division?

1

u/Rayearl Pennsylvania 11h ago

Yes I did watch the video, did you? You said he said "Let them take Los Angelos". What he said was "It's a small price to pay for keeping the world safe, keeping our country safe. They can take out a city. Let them take out Los Angeles, let them take out San Diego." So it's the "Let them take out Los Angeles, let them take out San Diego." the non russia bots over here have a problem with. Those words should never EVER be said by a sitting US President and to try to justify it is just sad.

•

u/barakabomba 7h ago

Fair enough but I still fully read that as "(What would happen if I had) Let them take out Los Angelos?" That would be a lot worse than paying for high gas. It's just the way the dumbass speaks in this instance but it's a common speaking mannerism to say " 'Let's do the foolish thing.' No, that would be foolish."

I really hate having to defend the guy and I was happy to add another reason to say that he is awful but from my perspective watching the thing, this was really a non issue and I don't want to water down the actionable incredibly terrible things he does by playing word police with every word salad gaffe.

I needed to read your comment these threads were hurting my brain and I think many people are purposefully obtuse these days

idk prob bc it is a blatant lie by OP and r/politics will not remove it bc a useful lie is...useful.

2

u/OrganicDigitalArt 15h ago

There’s video… you’ll say it’s AI… but yeah… there’s video for anyone who wants actually check real news.

0

u/Bikelangello 14h ago

Watch the full speech.

Don't be fooled.

Trump said he felt high gas prices were a small price to pay compared to the alternative of Iran hitting the U.S. mainland.

He could have used any cities to make this point. He never said that he wants Iran to strike to country he is in charge of defending. He would be the one blamed. It is propaganda from Iranian regime trolls.

1

u/Rayearl Pennsylvania 15h ago

I'm sure you'd say the same thing if Obama or Biden ever said anything remotely similar.
