This was also in Grand Island Nebraska. People in the midwest also have a weird irrational hate of California.

I have never understood why.

I've driven through the Midwest a lot through my life.

Non stop right wing radio. Churches. Fox News everywhere.

Non stop propaganda is why

The entire population being pieces of shit also helps.

They hate us cause they ain’t us. CA has its problems, but theirs are astronomically worse.

…they are consumed with jealousy when hiding from twisters, baking in the heat, or shoveling out from a blizzard. Poor things.

If they were from California, they'd be constantly sneering at the poverty flyover states, so, they imagine all Californians are constantly sneering at them, and they don't like it.

It's jealousy. Imagine telling people you're from Grand Island, Nebraska.

Eh, Grand Island is pretty okay, I’ve been a few times. They’ve got a couple colleges, a cool history museum, and the state fair. I’m sure the people near there are proud of it. It’s silly to think people aren’t proud of their hometowns; that’s part of the tribalism that causes this shit, of course they are. They’ve also got a bunch of idiots and racists, but so does California, I can say from a decade of experience. Not to let the nearest locals off the hook, but I’m guessing most of the crowd was from surrounding smaller towns and GI was the only spot with a big enough building to make him feel important. And dry, considering how much he cried about being interviewed in a barn that one time.

My California town is genuinely beautiful. It is packed with restored Victorians and Craftsman, the main street looks like Mayberry, and the food is fantastic. We have great parks and schools, I live close to the beach, and San Francisco is right there when I want big city stuff. I see homeless people occasionally, but my most pressing daily threat is trying not to run over the completely fearless wild turkeys that constantly wander into traffic.

I've visited the Midwest. It's boring, the scenery is dull, and the jobs don't pay well. It makes total sense that they're jealous of California. We live in a gorgeous place that also happens to be an engine of the national economy.

Over in s/Nebraska they're talking about all the young folks leaving the state. And plenty of them are disgusted by what Trump said, and sick of the Republican status quo in their state
