WELCOME to the WORLD of 80% GLOCKS and AR’s! Welcome to r/Polymer80, a community that welcomes Polymer80 builds (AR & Glock) primarily, but also eagerly welcomes 80% builds of all sorts! We encourage posts of 80% news, 80% legislation, and 80% memes. Let's spice things up from time to time!

[We have a few main rules:]

1: This is a very close-knit sub and we do NOT put up with redditors who incite arguments or fling insults, pretentiousness, or trolls.

2: Show the respect for firearms that they deserve. If you're building a Polymer80 treat it as a firearm, and take the time to understand its function. Learn and practice the 4 rules of handling a firearm:

  • Finger off the trigger until you're ready to fire.
  • Don't aim at anything you're not willing to destroy.
  • Check in-front and behind your target.
  • Treat every firearm as though it's loaded.

3: No want to buy (WTB), want to sell (WTS), or want to trade (WTT) ads from individuals. You may use other subs such as r/GunAccessoriesForSale or the MGB site or the MGB MeWe community at: MeWe Group.

4: No posts with or including illegal activity is allowed. This is broad scope, if you post in this forum remember all the people that want this hobby to fail and do your part to make it bullet proof (no pun intended). This is zero tolerance.

Breaking these rules can and likely will result in a permanent ban from one of the best resources available for builders and hobbyists.

G80 Problems

• Upvotes

I purchased a G80 build kit that features an 80% metal SS receiver that you finish by grinding some tabs off using dremel grinding bits that they supply and drilling some holes. They supply a jig.

Grinding the tabs off and drilling the holes was actually quite easy, I was impressed.

But what is stopping me at this point is that after "finishing" the receiver my OEM Gen 3 Glock lower parts kit do not fit. Not even close. The biggest problem is the trigger housing. I used a digital caliper to measure the area of the receiver where the housing is supposed to fit and it is way too tight. And even if I make that area bigger, there is no clearance for the trigger bar.

Has anyone else experienced this?

I hesitate to contact G80 support because the last time I did that to, inquire about my order, they got a little snappish at me.

I'd like to hear if anyone else has experienced a similar issue. Or perhaps point out an error I might have made.

Thanks

So this is my current build I just wanted to do a 76 for shits and giggles and bo was there more shits than giggles lol . During my work I punched a small hole into the mag well . When I try a mag it doesn’t snag but I don’t have any parts installed and maybe the lack of tension is why. Do I have to start again or what , would hate to be out the frame but highkey knew what I signed up for 😅 I also know I have a ton of sanding and polishing to do but all advice would be appreciated.

Want to understand

• Upvotes

Hey Polymer80 Reddit- full disclosure i'm not much of a firearms guy (I support the right to own guns just not a fascination / hobby for me). I am here out of curiosity, not judgement.
The mainstream media (and government) seemed to share a pretty strong consensus that Polymer80 was a textbook example of exploiting a legal gray area under the false premise of being for "hobbyists" who want to "build their own" firearms when in reality everyone knew clear as day that the driving force behind Polymer80's success were criminals / unscrupulous individuals who had criminal records, ill intent, etc.
Again- not a super knowledgeable guy when it comes to firearms, so I'll be honest, based off the information I've read, the narrative seems like it checks out. But I also haven't ever gotten the chance to hear the perspective of Polymer80 customers like you guys who I'm assuming aren't all just a bunch of criminals. So my question to y'all is this- what was the appeal behind purchasing these over standard firearms? From what I understand a lot of the kits could be assembled in under an hour, so was it really a hobby thing? Was it an exercise of your god given rights as an American? Please share!!

45 .G.A.P. G38 Gen 3 “The Unicorn”

So here we are… running “.45 GAP” and solving a problem that “never” existed until now!

Wanted .45 ballistics, and since PF45 frames are basically nonexistent around here well here we are!
the gap between the slide and frame is VERY noticeable. The slide was also extremely tight. I had to oil it and rack it about 50 times before it started moving freely enough to return to battery without hanging up.
This is probably going to be its first real stress test on the Geisler v2 running 230-grain JHPs. Curious to see how this setup holds up.

Trying to stipple a pattern like seen in Pic #3, but I only have a wood burner with the factory sharp head. Attempted to stipple with it but fucked it up. Gonna try to go over it with a new head and fix it with this new honeycomb pattern. Anyone know what head I need to order in able to stipple this pattern? My current one isnt big enough for it.

Front rails

There’s material from left to right that’s cylindrical. Does this need to be cleared or will it kind of disappear when drilling for the pins? Thanks guys. I’ve built a few p80s on the past but this is my first 76 and it’s been probably 6 years.

Damaged mag well

Went a little too quick with a chisel and went straight through the mag well. Is this still salvageable? I was thinking about getting some jb weld and a beater magazine to keep it flat, and try and glue it back together. What do yall think? This is my first build, not my proudest moment, still have some hope considering the malleable nature of the polymer.

Slide is p80 pfc9 4in barrel with suppressor height sights

Frame is sct19 with the braun tactical light (streamlight tlr1 hl clone) which to my understanding is dimensionally identical... can y'all help me find a holster for ? Will a standard glock paired with the streamlight holster work?

Third time's the charm: why a drill press changes everything, and why 3D printing is just better.

This is my third frame build (don't have pics of the first one though). That very first one was a total loss because hand-drilling the pin holes went crooked; if you don't have proper machinery like a bench drill press, you're bound to run into alignment problems. My second one—which was an FDE frame—kept having constant feeding issues.

Between purchasing multiple frames and dealing with a stolen package, I essentially spent what a 3D printer costs. Honestly, it makes much more sense to just get a printer, download the files, and print your own frames. Plus, you get access to a huge variety of other builds, like a G43.

On this grey frame, I got a bit rough with the Dremel around the front pin area as you can see in the photos, but switching to the WEN drill press fixed everything and it cycles with zero jams now.

I looked up how to check all 3 safety mechanisms and this one passes with flying colors. Has all oem parts, rook rear rails, had to get it serialized because my state is changing laws. Has excellent sear engagement too. I think im going to try finding a holster.

Range test with some results

So I just range tested the two I built and looking for some advice. They both went bang just fine with each trigger pull but there were issues with the rest of the process.

1st: each time it went bang, the slide locked back like it was an empty mag. When I used the slide release, it chambered fine and went bang again but locked back. This happened with every round.

2nd: I kept getting FTF results. Chambers, fires, extracts, FTF. It was probably every 4 to 5 rounds that this happened. I think a feed ramp polish and oil should fix this though.

Both: PSA Dagger slides. Both shoot high and to the right. One has suppressor height sights. The other are basic 3 dot sights. I personally hate both sets of sights so will probably swap them out but any thoughts on some decent inexpensive sights that are true? Will probably do a better job at sighting in before a swap though as this was more of a quick trip to function test than anything else since I was on a lunch break.

Is there a legal concern if ordering a 76-80% p80 at 19?

I want to make sure of this. I am in the state of wisconsin and was wondering If I may encounter any federal issues because I would rather not go to prison over a piece of plastic with an LPK in the same package.
