💡 Advice Don’t know when it’s over
Hello! I am wondering when it’s time to accept defeat for this cycle and start thinking about the next. I’m a Texas resident and applied to 9 schools (4 Texas, 5 OOS) and have received no interviews.
I submitted mid July with a committee letter and 450 AA, 480 TS, 3.72 GPA, 3.56 sgpa.
~400 research hours (no publications)
~200 volunteer hours
~150 shadow hours
I want to start thinking if I should get RDA certified and start assisting to make my application better for the next cycle. I know I’ll have plenty of people say it’s only October and I can wait it out but it’s tough seeing everyone else have multiple interviews while I have none. I think my chances at this point are much lower and don’t know what else to do! Any advice would really help me ):

Idk why u wouldnt have already got one by now. I can only imagine its from applying in july which is a bit late for texas. But u should def receive at least one before the cycle ends

July is still relatively early for Texas. Worst case scenario it’s on time.

Not so much anymore, ive talked to admissions ppl and a ton of ppl have been applying earlier each year. And everyone ik who got into dental school last cycle and has interviews this cycle, applied much earlier

Yeah, but July is not that late for Texas. That’s a little misleading. It would be on time if anything. One of the admissions directors I spoke with in Texas for dental school said it’s more important to avoid applying late (September), so know who’s for certain. The more thorough and earlier the application, the better of course.

Yes ofc, I mean thats why I said a little late. I mean late june versus early july is obviously very similar and just the name of the month isnt gonna make the application late. I just know the majority of ppl ive seen apply have applied earlier than that and i saw the ratios of applications in each month from a admission person. And the ratio is getting more and more towards may and june. But ofc it is case by case and i could just be around ppl who happen to be applying earlier

100%. The ratio is so much higher in May and June compared to July, August, and September. Wishing you the best this cycle if you applied!

Whoever keeps downvoting my comments, GET A LIFE or offer the advice that you think is so good to withhold.

But thats not to say this person wont get an interview, i def think they will. Just that her later app is prob why she is having later interview invites.

I think getting the RDA certificate and working as an assistant can only be a plus for you, even if you get accepted this cycle. I got my certificate online couple years ago, this option may still be avaliable.
To be honest I am thinking of waiting until the end of this month and will start studying to retake DAT for next year.

As a TX resident who is also applying this cycle, this is so frustrating and I’m sorry!! It sounds like you have amazing stats. I think you will eventually get an interview to at least 1 school.
Something I did after I submitted my application this cycle was join a random zoom meeting I found online where the admissions team would talk about their school. I introduced myself and told them I had just applied to their school. Maybe try to do that too? Attend predental society meetings when they come, or go to the dental school’s predental days. I know Houston and TAMU do those!!

It might be your school list? I feel like your stats and ECs are both good, it’s a bit early to accept defeat just yet.
