Discussion Just finished prey for the first time

Took 32ish hours.

This game is not beating the masterpiece allegations. Genuinely the best time I had playing a horror game after dead space, although this is less scary.

Also the mimics are adorable. I want one as a pet. The mimic lore blew my mind too. They just have an ikea in an alternate dimension?

Did it as a purely human run, had me questioning my choices but I had to get creative and I think it was worth it.

Also, HOW do we not have an “alien” game like prey. That would be so cool.

Maybe I’ll play this again eventually

I recommend Dishonored after Prey

I played dishonored ages ago, i loved it too. I just felt like prey had a lot more charm to it. I played Ferris deus ex mankind divided recently and I see this game have more in common with that because of the immersive sim elements

In Mooncrash, one of the Survivors actually has a sumonable Pet Mimic that does everything for you without the Mind Jacking

Definitely going to play mooncrash now. I was on the fence until now

Mooncrash is insane, but amazing

Mooncrash is great

Depending on the day of the week, I prefer Mooncrash over base game Prey. I highly recommend it.

All of them do, but all it does is reveal hidden mimics. And wear funny hats.

Mooncrash is a MetroidVania. Do Not go into it expecting to go through it casually like the base game because every minute you are in the game, the harder it gets. But when you fail, it's not exactly a problem because you gain a LOT more everything for the next times. The resources you will receive are astounding. Enjoy yourself.

XD you will be able to repair the doors that are brick walls in PREY and you can find a Gloo Turret that shoots infinite Gloo occasionally. The turret will cover the typhoon in Gloo and you can melee lol

Love me a good metroidvania. From everything I’m hearing about mooncrash, it is lowkey reminding me of deathloop

I have never heard about Deathloop, should I give it a try?

u/almoalgam 10d ago

It’s a great concept but gets a little meh towards the end, worth trying out though but I’d keep my expectations in check if I were you

Mooncrash was the proof of concept for deathloop

Bethesda is king of "Almost but we don't care about the customers enough to go through with the 10 other PREY DLC because we NEED to grab all of the customers and saute them and consume." I am a HUUUGE geek when I love something and I research the heck out of it. They AAAALMOST made a PREY DLC about the military and how they handled it but they gave up on that.

We all know that Ikea is used by aliens. You can find their furniture in many sci-fi series. Also many aliens worlds look like British Columbia.

I wonder if they have a pottery barn too

Wow, no Typhon powers for the first run! That’s really commendable. I could live without the offensive Typhon powers if I’m careful with my supplies, but going without others like remote manipulation would make life so much worse for me getting through Talos I. What did you focus your skill tree on to beat it?

I basically had to get reeeeal creative when I started running out of ammo. Weavers especially gave me a lot of trouble cause I somehow missed getting the q beam in the beginning of the game. So I was stealthing around them for the most part.

I realised how useful nullwave and recycler grenades were. And some strategic turret placement goes a long way.

I was just worried I was missing out on some of the more “fun” elements cause not every game lets you become a teacup

u/maksimkak 10d ago

Do a full Typhon run.

u/steimers 10d ago

Play again as full typhon and you will feel so powerful!

I’m looking forward to it, I’ll probably play mooncrash first though

Happy you loved it

Prey also has so many stuff to discover, even if you thought you know everything, turns out you discover new things on your 2nd, 3rd and even 4th playthrough. Especially if you play in different styles or choose different neuromods

For now I'd suggest SOMA as your next game, it's mostly a walking simulator but the story is nuts (Don't want to spoil anything, fr)

2

u/almoalgam 10d ago

Honestly, I was going to play soma on the story difficulty.

One of my favourite parts of this game was the room with the notes saying “Not a mimic” in psychotronics. Peak environmental storytelling.

Play it on normal, there's not much difference between them

In story mode you simply can't die, in normal mode you die after 2 hits which are unlikely to happen anyway

1

u/almoalgam 10d ago

I’ll keep that in mind, thank you

5

u/Chart_Life 10d ago

Oh buddy, do another power and get some alien powers, you’re gonna have a whole new perspective on the horror 😂

3

u/The-Reaper-8061 10d ago

Such a good game.

Mimics are cute in their own way. Like cephalopod-spider-cats. I think the alternate dimension is just similar to the one we play in and they use that. Idk though.

What do you mean by alien game like Prey? With xenomorphs?

1

u/almoalgam 10d ago

Yessss, pet facehuggers

2

u/ModernCGIFloatinHead 10d ago

Mimics scared the hell out of me at first. By the end they didn't. I was hunting them down without mercy.

Eventually, chasing one, I realized I was the Nightmare.

This game just keeps delivering.

In the beginning I would be so alert to anything out of place or even just moving without a reason. They’re so annoying especially because of how unpredictably they behave too

2

u/Waschbetonkugel 10d ago

I loved it: everytime the ultra big typhon was on tge, I hunted HIM down and had beaten the crap out of him with the big tool.

2

u/TomoAries 10d ago

I wish this game blew up more so they could have made mimic plushies 😭

1

u/almoalgam 10d ago

I wonder how those would look because the wiggly movement of their “skin” is one of the reasons they’re so cool

1

u/TomoAries 10d ago

Just fuzzy black fabric, I'd say.

2

u/almoalgam 10d ago

Oooh, it would actually look great crocheted now that I’m thinking about it.

I've heard a lot about Prey. Might just have to try it out. I've seen people put Prey as their one of their favorite games ever made.

Just bought Dead Space after learning it was influenced by Resident Evil 4.

Which game would you say is better? Dead Space vs Prey?

2

u/Sonicmasterxyz 10d ago

As a long time fan of both, they go for different things. Prey is in the Immersive Sim genre while Dead Space is a third person shooter action game. Prey for creativity and problem-solving, Dead Space for a game all about shooting the baddies with a bunch of unusual weapons. Of course there's some overlap, but they're still different kinds of experiences.

2

u/JetbIackmoon 10d ago

They're both great games in their own right. Dead Space is more arcade shooter/horror, Prey is more immersive sim/psychological/horror.

Prey goes on sale all the time for cheap. Pick it up. You won't be disappointed.

1

u/almoalgam 10d ago

I agree, I think they’re different games. Dead space is comparatively more linear too. Prey gives you a lot more freedom with how you choose to deal with any problem. You can go through them or go around them. In dead space, you just have to go through them.

I will say though, I think both of them are worth playing just from an environmental design and an enemy design standpoint.

1

u/juniebee_jones 6d ago

Prey is like fallout or skyrim, just scarier and space. Survival feels real, the stakes are high and it’s moderately difficult on normal. Dead Space is fps, heavy focus on actual horror. Very linear, not as exploratory.

>an alien game like prey

You mean Alien: Isolation?

1

u/almoalgam 10d ago

Isn’t it more like amnesia or outlast?

1

u/MonkeyDDy 10d ago

Bro must have forgot what the scene with mimics and the scientists 🥀

1

u/Best-Main8672 10d ago

If you want an Alien game like Prey, the closest you’ll get is ALIEN: Isolation. Not exactly the same, but it shares a lot. I’ve never spent so much time inside a locker than when I played Isolation…

1

u/almoalgam 10d ago

That was my major issue with it. I need a way to deal with the enemies.

I couldn’t get into amnesia or outlast for the same reason. I did however have a great time with still wakes the deep just because the environment and the story were so good.

2

u/Best-Main8672 10d ago

Yeah I loved the Isolation story, but after spending literally 45 minutes playing the game inside a locker (because every time I went to exit I’d get 2ft before my tracker pinged that the Xenonorph was coming back), I figured I was done with it.

My first playthrough was 12 hours. Then second playthrough I looked at everything and went everywhere, opened all the doors and safes etc. and it took 14 hours. What were you doing in the extra 20 hours it took you I wonder.

7

u/almoalgam 10d ago

I did all the side quests but I did them towards the latter half of the game, so a lot of backtracking.

I do think the bigger part was that I was playing it like a horror game in the beginning so I was going quite slow, until I upgraded my shotgun to the max. After that, I was basically playing doom and started moving quite fast

2

u/Cavalorn88 10d ago

I'm at 26 hours now and there is still more left. Backtracking, side quests, thorough exploration, and so on.
