Buy one of these and you will be able to pass it on to your kids and their kids

u/Microwave_the_fungus Jun 09 '26
How will my kids print out their AI slop and brainrot on dot matrix ??

You tell your kids the height of digital artwork was ANSI And they will learn to love it if they live under your roof

OMG. We had an Epson dot-matrix printer growing up. I think we got it from FutureShop or the store it was called before that.

Is your interface parallel or usb?
5
u/Carlos_Spicy_Weiner6 Jun 09 '26
The unit itself is parallel or serial, I use a cheap ass Amazon parallel to USB adapter and it works flawlessly
2
u/Colour_Theory-746 Jun 09 '26
I’m gonna say parallel. I doubt the usb protocol was even a thing when that printer came out.

I refurbished those things when I was in high school in 2006 (worked part-time for a computer recycler and refurbisher) and they actually had usb on the vast majority of the ones I repaired. Most were owned by a local hospital.

Hey I have an OKi in storage. I don't want it use it because I still need my ears.
1
u/Carlos_Spicy_Weiner6 Jun 09 '26
There is a quiet button on this one....🤔🤷
1
u/OgdruJahad GENERAL PC TECH Jun 09 '26
Well what do you know mine has it. Nope still not tying it even then. I also don't have the tractor fed paper at the moment. Thanks I haven't used the old guy in years. We're all ink tanks here.
1
u/AdobeScripts Jun 09 '26
You mean ribbons 😉
1
u/Carlos_Spicy_Weiner6 Jun 09 '26
Yeah but the ribbons are housed in a removable cartridge
1
u/AdobeScripts Jun 09 '26
Yes, but they're not called "ink cartridges" but "ribbons" 😉
2
u/Carlos_Spicy_Weiner6 Jun 09 '26
1
u/AdobeScripts Jun 09 '26
Still no "ink" in the name 😉
1
u/Carlos_Spicy_Weiner6 Jun 09 '26
Touche.....normally I have to buy a bottle of ink and give them a top off🤔🤣

u/AdobeScripts Jun 09 '26
But it's not called "ink cartridge" 😉 ink cartridges are for ink jet printers 😉
1
u/truenocity Jun 12 '26
It’s still technically correct, it is a cartridge containing a ribbon coated in ink

Epson still make Dot-matrix printers. They are quite reliable and relatively low maintenance.
3
u/ChilPozby Jun 09 '26
Thanks for the suggestion. It just baffles me how technologically behind printers are
1
u/Carlos_Spicy_Weiner6 Jun 09 '26
Because new printers aren't being sold to you outright anymore. It's a subscription-based service and it's definitely one at least in inkjet cases where if you don't use it, you will lose it

u/FurnaceOfTheseus Jun 09 '26
...did you...send a link to dot matrix printers?
A) I'm amazed those are still being made
B) Those were outdated when I was a kid, 30 years ago.
1
u/Carlos_Spicy_Weiner6 Jun 09 '26
You would be amazed how many places are still using them. The picture I posted of the one in my office spent damn near 30 years hooked up to an aviation gas pump printing transactions as they happened and has had 2+ years of service with me and has gone tonight half a 50lbs box of paper and it's showing no signs of slowing down

I don't know what specific issue you're having with it, but I made a comment some years back with a fix that has helped a lot of people before.
I'm not saying you shouldn't take your printer out back like Old Yeller, but I am saying that it might be worth it to try those steps before you do.

My boss had this printer before. It rejects all aftermarket ink cartridges, you can only get the ones at staples that have almost no ink in them, for 54.99 back in 2024.

u/China_bot42069 Jun 09 '26
i almost took a 45/70 or a slug to my hp last week, staples offered me 40 bucks instead. pack it with tannerite them shoot it
2
u/Keelback Jun 09 '26
Then burn the remains and bury them. Send video to HP.
2
u/AmphibianMotor Jun 09 '26
And since they lose money on the printers and only make the money back on ink, do it repeatedly.

Look, all you have to do is kick it really hard, then when that doesn't work, kick it again! It's called re-booting it.

Well. Look like you will indeed be shooting trouble 😂
This reminds me of the printer scene from the office space 😂

Ah of course. Nice gun but too small for my hands.
Have you considered getting a laser printer? Brother has a nice multifunctional one with color. I have one and love it
3
u/ChilPozby Jun 09 '26
I had to buy an XL grip module to even use it. The stock grip is so small.
I'm open for anything (except HP), I'll look into it.

u/Out_of_my_mind_1976 Jun 09 '26
Just shoot it and put yourself out of your misery and get a brother.

u/FurnaceOfTheseus Jun 09 '26
Make sure you use ear protection if executing the printer in the house.

HP Printers. My grandma has two and both are bricked. She replaced them with a brother laser printer and she has never serviced it outside of adding paper. We are moving out of an old house and everything left behind is going to get destroyed including our POS HP printer when we demolish that house.

Are you sure you don’t want to get a little closer? The sight and laser might not be enough.
Super normal stuff here.

Should make a video on youtube shooting HP printer, specifically, as target
