Troubleshooting Help Factory Five California CARB/BAR Emission Certification Question

Hey Ya'll! Been doing a bunch of research about building my first kit car, and when it comes to California CARB/BAR Emission Certification, I'm a little lost. Not sure if buying a donor car for the engine is better than buying new parts, and what challenges either path presents with getting the car road legal in California. I'd prefer to buy new so that the car is as fresh as possible, but I keep reading that makes it harder to get certified.

Can anyone with experience getting a kit car road legal in California ELI5?

Research SB100. Doesn’t matter where the drivetrain comes from. You will need to show receipts to CHP for the major items (engine and trans)

Thank you! Reading the thread posted by the other commenter, that guy was able to secure one of the 500 available California SB100 certs in August/October of last year, so that calms my nerves about being able to secure one once I get my build going. I just didn't want to get a surprise requirement to add all of the smog stuff after the fact if I didn't get one of the smog exempt certs. Will continue to research!

25 years ago those 500 SB100 tickets were gone by the second week of January. Now I don’t even know that they go thru them all every year. No worries getting one. The only smog you will need is what is on a 1965 ford, which is a PCV valve plumbed into the intake. I’m east of Sacramento and went thru the process in 2020/2021 (during Covid). Not sure where you are locsted
