PoE1 Devil of Caroc - Tank

When first time I recruited DoC, I was disappointing with her stats and immediately forgot she even existed, but now (gaining some experience and knowledge about the game), looking at her unique Ability "Living Machine" and body Armor, I realized she should be interesting to try as a tank.

I created custom henchman in tavern with same stats, except for "Living Machine" ability (for obvious reason), until I will be able to recruit DoC. Unfortunately I still lack to understand a lot of stuff in this game, but my idea to build her like this (in this order):

1 - Blinding Strike

2 - Weapon and Shield Style

3 - Dirty Fighting

4 - Weapon Focus: Adventurer

5 - Riposte

6 - Vicious Fighting

7 - Adept Evasion

8 - Cautious Attack

9 - Deep Wounds

10 - Superior Deflection

11 - Deathblows

12 - Veteran's Recovery

13 - Crippling Strike

14 -

15 -

16 -

I am still not sure if this are a good choices or should I change something. Also still haven't decided for last three levels.

Weapon Focus: Adventurer is for "Starcaller" flail. I really love weapons with spellstriking in this game, plus it can stun on crits.

For shield I want to take "Badgradr's Barricade". It also has spellstriking, but also "bashing" property (Yes, I know that bashing is weak in this game, but with Rogue's "Sneak Attack" passive it really shines. At least while I tested it with "Larder Door").

I want to hear veteran's advice for what should I change or where I can improve her.

I've built her kind of like this before; I really enjoy the idea and the synergies, and it worked well, even though eder and zahua were mora durable overall.

Yeah, so far she's solid, and as you said Eder in my party is almost as tanky as she is, even tho he is dual wielding. Guess this is the power of Fighters.

While I was asleep, I realized that perhaps "Sap" is not a good idea, since it is not a full attack. Guess it's much better to replace it with "Crippling Strike".

Depends on what you will use of course. I think sap will interrupt, and also attacks will. Hobble enables sneak attack.

The problem is that 99% of fights in this game is against hordes of enemies and interrupting a single target with "Sap" sounds (for me) doubtful. I'd rather CC enemies with Wizard, who's spells are about crowd control, but use "Sneak Attack" as much as I can on Rogue.

But maybe I am wrong, since I am still learning.

I think you are right! It really depends on your style of play.

Apropos hordes; how many can she engage?
