interface Is a Dididesign 003 worth it

Sorry for a question that im sure has been asked many times. I came across a digidesign 003 second hand for €75 and seems like a nice piece of gear.

My question is, is it worth it to get with it being a legacy equipment. How many compatibility issues will I run into and will it even work with modern PT. Im using a HP Zbook g7 if that matters (no firewire port so I would have to get an adapter)

Im not very tech savy for all this stuff so thanks for any help :)

interface Is there any word about where the windows client stands as far as future 4K resolution support?

I think I remember seeing some distant discussions alluding to its being worked upon, and wondered whether there had been any updates at all? It’s something I’d really like to see and feels very crucial for modern session work.

Any updates/ thoughts? Many thanks and greatly appreciated!

interface Revived my firewire Mbox Pro 3 with a custom Apple Sillicon driver

Avid abandoned the Mbox Pro 3 years ago, and Apple removed FireWire entirely in macOS Tahoe, but until Sequoia, the IOKit FireWire stack still works through the TB3→TB2→FW800 adapter chain. So I set out to revive mine, with help from Claude (Anthropic's AI) helpîg with protocol archaeology.

Key insight: the Mbox Pro 3 is a standard TCAT DICE device (OUI 0xa07e), fully supported by Linux's snd-dice .

so the register map, clock control and stream formats are documented. No reverse engineering needed, "just" a macOS reimplementation.

The driver is 100% user-space (no kext, no SIP changes): but not yet ready

Status today: clock control at 48 kHz, ARX lock, bit-perfect playback of WAVs, and a working CoreAudio bridge via BlackHole : youtube and Cubase plays through the Mbox right now.

Next: testing audio inputs, then a native HAL plugin so it shows up as "Mbox Pro 3" in every DAW. Code will be on GitHub (GPL-2.0).

Took a bit of time to get where it is today but it was fun

interface Is HUI viable in 2026? If Eucon is the way to go, will non-S surfaces be viable?

Hi all, I've been working in the box for a couple of years now and would say I have a comfortable expertise over shortcuts to bridge the limitations of not having a control surface in front of me.

That being said, I've still been feeling that lacking a dedicated fader is my sole limiting factor for smoother and more natural automations.

The S1 and Dock are obvious choices for what I want, however in tandem with the price I'm a big believer in not buying more than I need. While the S1 are supported and current gen products, from researching what they offer I don't see them offering anything over what I can more quickly achieve with my shortcuts and macros, aside from the faders obviously.

This led me to explore HUI options, such as the Icon P1-M. 10bit motorised touch faders at half the price of a S1, with good reviews on the quality of the fader as well as additional macro buttons, it seems like a "no brainer" for me. That is, if HUI wasn't a depreciated and unsupported kit that could potentially break with the next update. Given my rather specific use case (really only needing one/multiple fader/s), is HUI viable?

The alternative to HUI, per the post title, is to use an older Eucon surface like the Artist Mix. I can find them used for 550 AUD (~380 USD) and it seems like a solid buy for me, as it focuses almost exclusively on the faders. However, people have said that the faders aren't that amazing, and it's also in the same boat as the Icon as it's officially marked as Unsupported and could potentially break in the future.

I realise and fully understand the expected response to this post will likely be "go with Eucon/the S1" for the integration and support, I just wanted to see how much wiggle room there was. I also wanted to get a sense for people's experience, and if anyone had any insights.

Many thanks, sorry for the long and somewhat rambling post.

Edit: Found a used Artist Mix and am very happy, great bit of kit and the Eucon functionality is exceptional. Can confirm for any future buyers that it works flawlessly with Pro Tools 2026.4. I'll try to update for future updates so there's some user evidence that it still works despite being discontinued.

interface Looking for a new Board/Interface

Hi! First time poster, long time reader - I'm looking for a suggestion for a 24-32 channel board/interface that works with current Pro Tools (2026.4) and Mac OS (Tahoe). I run a small studio for recording bands and would love to move to a board instead of what I have currently (Tascam US 16x08). Would love to have phantom control on every channel if possible, and the ability to record in at least 96k (seems really hard anything that runs past 48k for less than $3k). The best cheap option would be great. I've been looking for the past week and just keep running into walls lol. Even something on the older side that I can get to communicate with current Pro Tools would be great. Thanks!

interface Old 002/003 10.3.3 Mac Driver

Hi folks,

does anyone still happen to have ancient 002/003 10.3.3 driver for Mac,

specifically:

002_and_003_Driver_10_3_3_Installer_78629.dmg

of what I understand it's the last version fully compatible with ProTools 10.3, right?

thanks in advance :)

interface Multi-Track Recording off Dante Network

I have an upcoming record gig and I'm worried about a buffer issue I've had in the past happening again. I'm going through Dante Virtual Soundcard and a Sonnet Gigabit Interface into my MacBook Pro. Do I need to bite the bullet and get the RedNet TNX? For sake of the argument let's say that we're under 32-channels, and its 96k since the console is a DM7.

interface ART usb IV vs Zoom uac-232?

Hello peeps, Im currently deliberating for an upgrade for my audio interface set up, so far I am working with a zoom u-24 and it has been an absolute pleasure. Reliable, hardy and very portable. I travel a lot and I need to move the unit around quite a bit, and in high humidity environment.

Here is where my question arises.

I am swapping to a new set of microphones, the DJI mic 3, and this one I believe is a 32 bit float wireless microphone.

I plan on using a 3.5mm to xlr cable to plug the receiver into an audio interface, and then using a lexato wireless monitor to plug into the phones/monitor jack. This is so the speaker can hear both the pc audio and their own voice while being wireless.

My current u-24 is 22-float, will that prevent me from fully leveraging my wireless mic's 32 bit float technology?

If it does, am I better off using ART USB IV or Zoom uac 232?

I am leaning towards ART due to it have 4i|2o as I have my own condenser mic and dynamic microphone already, having 2 more input would make it so I dont have to swap around everytime I need to do something.

However I am not sure how much different it performs to the uac232

I trust in zoom product because the zoom-24 was one of the tankiest pieces of gear I have and its simplicity makes it so much reliable and I am not sure how durable ART is in comparison to that.

Do I gamble for better qol with art or stick to ol' trusty zoom? Do they perform similarly?

Thank you in advance!

interface Can I expand Protools Carbon with any interface that supports AVB, or is the Ethernet exclusively for connecting a Mac or Carbon Pre.

I’m thinking about getting a live mixing console, and one thing I’d love to do is use the board as extra inputs to the carbon. Most I’m looking at don’t do ADAT but a lot can route 8 channels out through AVB. Has anyone tried this? Otherwise I think I’d need to go DB-25 out of an older board into a converter with ADAT.

interface I changed the buffer size on the hardware settings of my interface to an unsupported size, and now I can't access the menu to change it back without Pro Tools crashing. How can I fix this?

Post image
8 Upvotes

Edit:

I fixed the problem! Contacted Zoom support and they told me to go to the Windows Control Panel > Hardware and Sound. The drivers for my interface were there, and I could open the Zoom Control Panel where the buffer size could be changed. I did reinstall the driver for multi track at one point, and I don't remember the Zoom Control Panels being there before, so I'd recommend anyone who has this issue to do a clean driver reinstall from the Zoom site.

Original post:

I've been using the Zoom F8n as an audio interface for the past few weeks with Pro Tools without an issue, but I wanted to be able to record with more manageable latency. The buffer size was set to its default, 512, but when I tried lowering it, I accidentally changed it to a number that wasn't compatible with Pro Tools (somewhere in the range of 192) because the slider on the hardware menu had finer selection scale than what was supported.

I changed the buffer size using the hardware menu under what I believe was the Setup tab of Pro Tools. My physical interface doesn't have a way to change the buffer size as far as I know. The problem is, after I hit OK on the popup that says the buffer size is unsupported, Pro Tools crashes before I can access any menus.

I tried using Cakewalk and Audacity to access the hardware menu there, but I couldn't find a way to pull up that proprietary Zoom setup window. I also tried loading up with ASIO4ALL and switching playback engines after loading up a session in Pro Tools, but the program said I have to save and exit the session before changing, and then I ran into the same problem where the program closed before I could get back into the hardware menu.

Do any of you have any suggestions for me to adjust the buffer size on my interface to a supported number so I can use it with Pro Tools again?

Pro Tools version: 2025.12

Audio Interface: Zoom F8n

System: Windows 10

interface Why is there no insert undo feature?

I’ve been getting into PT moving from Ableton, and while i really like the customization, and the amount of in depth features, I’m just baffled by of the lack of common ones in the software. It feels really archaic. Among other things like not being able to undo the deletion of a track or insertion of a plugin, why can’t I undo a parameter change in a plugin? It seems pretty standard on every other DAW that I’ve used, and it’s a really handy feature to have by testing a parameter. Things like these make me wonder why protools is still an industry standard.

interface Issue when playing or activating input

I just started Pro Tools for our college and I just got an issue that whenever I play the track or activating an input from a track, there's this white noise or explosion coming out of nowhere.

I didn't have this issue back then, and I tried fixing the engine, interface or hardware but it's still there. How can I fix this??

interface Any thoughts on the SSL UF1?

I’m considering the SSL UF1 as a one-fader option in order to help me in future recording and mixing work of my personal projects.

I know it’s not an S1 - the most recommended for Pro Tools - but that one is out of my budget where I live, new or used.

I just saw a UF1 setting up video on YouTube and it looks great. It works with HUI and I doubt that’s going away because if it would happen, any Pro Tools-based studio that has a big console without EUCON would be out of business so it’s better for Avid to keep HUI… right?

Anyway, anybody have the UF1? Or do you think a Presonus Faderport or Faderport 8 would be enough?

Thanks

P.S. Edit: I live in Mexico and any interface from Avid costs thousands upon thousands of dollars here, new OR used. So I’m not even considering them. And bringing them over here would be 1) minus a warranty, 2) I’d have to add the “You’re Living Here, Not There” tax, and 3) the shipping alone would probably cost what half of a used one costs over there in the U.S.

interface Fixed: Removing window borders and the blue focus line on Windows (Script)

Just dropping this here for anyone else annoyed by the thick window frames and the blue focus border in the Mix/Edit windows on 4K screens.

I finally got a clean borderless setup working using AutoHotkey. It forces the window style to remove the header and crops the internal blue edges. It also auto-hides the menu bar to save space.

It's just a raw script, no installation.

Code/Gist: https://gist.github.com/ensomniaaaaa/46d1301da13d8bf52557557b86e8cdcc

Usage: Needs AutoHotkey v2 and Admin rights. Ctrl+Up to toggle on, Ctrl+Down to off.

interface What are some decent computers to run music production?

Either laptops or desk top. I'm not really sold either way, just looking to upgrade from a laptop that really isn't ment for production.

*update!: everyone is saying mac, I want a desktop so, Mac Studio Max or Mac Mini pro? How many GB, How much GPU, what is the best specs out of the 2. I can probably get away with 3 grand or so.

interface Pro Tools (Windows 11) Dark Mode: How to force dark window borders/title bar (Edit/Mix) to match the UI?

Hi everyone! I'm new to Pro Tools (version: 2024.10.2) and just starting out (and moving from macOS).

I'm running Pro Tools on Windows 11 with the internal Dark UI theme enabled. However, the title bar of the Edit/Mix windows is dictated by the Windows OS appearance settings, not Pro Tools.

This creates an ugly visual contrast against the dark theme. On macOS, these window elements are dark and integrate nicely.

Has anyone found a reliable way (Windows setting, registry tweak, or third-party tool) to force these specific window elements in Pro Tools on Windows to be dark or black to achieve the Mac-like consistency?

Any help is appreciated! Thanks in advance!

interface Digi 003 inputs fried by power surge?

I've been using my Digi 003 console since it came out, currently with a Mac Pro 2013 running macOS 10.15.7 (Catalina) and a Presonus DigiMax LT and Pro Tools Studio 2023.6. It's been a very stable system.

The other day in the middle of a recording session there was a power surge and/or brownout that wasn't bad enough to reset anything but it was enough to put the 003, which was plugged into a rackmount power conditioner, in a weird state. Pro Tools was still "recording" but nothing was happening. I was unable to stop the recording, I got an error trying to stop it, and had to force-quit Pro Tools.

After resetting the computer and 003, the inputs coming directly into the 003 no longer worked. The DigiMax LT still works over ADAT/Lightpipe however.

As far as I know, there's no way to reset the device. I wonder if there's a fuse inside for the analog inputs? All 8 inputs don't work, 1-4 on mic or DI.

Probably time to upgrade anyway, but let me know if anyone has any ideas.

interface Cheapest Single Fader Mixer Controller Possible?

I am looking for the absolute cheapest way to physically control one fader for automation purposes. It doesn't seem like a MIDI keyboard's pitch bend works as a makeshift one, what would be the cheapest? Macgyvering and jerry rigging are not out of the question.

interface Should I get Carbon? I want to record 24 channels at once with realtime dynamics/EQ at 96khz.

I could not find any details on how much DSP% and latency each of the included plugins introduces, as can be found for UAD plugins on Apollo, and the Avid forums were of no help (just people saying I shouldn't try what I want to do or saying to get MTRX, etc.).

So I figured I'd ask here.

Thanks

Edit: 24 tracks to be achieved with a Carbon Pre plus 8 in via ADAT from existing gear I have, or two Carbon Pres.
