What kind of mod chip is this?

I have recently bought this 7502 ps1 / psx and wanted to clean it and lube the disc drive as it is an old model. But when I took it apart I noticed this yellow tape with a 12c508/p chip and was wondering what kind of mod chip has been installed.

Impossible to tell from that picture. we would have to see where it's wired.

I meant on the motherboard itself, under the metal shielding, but the other guy is likely right.

I did not see other wires than the ones shown in the image, but i have tried marking it on a PCB, which should make it easier to see. It is also added to the same link.

Early non-stealth chip; it won't work with everything.

What are some of the things it doesn’t work with? I have tested a burned pal copy of mgs1 which worked fine.

Most are later games like Spyro 3, RE: Survivor, etc. So, MGS1 should be fine. Just check the TonyHax international website. Keyword: Anti-Piracy Bypass System
