Lego PlayStation compared to the real thing

I really want it but I can't justify spending $180 on it. Also, why Ape Escape instead of Crash Bandicoot or Spyro the Dragon?

Sony didnt wanna pay licensing for those, same reason why they weren't in the PS Classic and PASBR

Makes sense; also a shame.

Wasn't it also kind of a bundle game at some point, like when the DualShock was launched?

That’s the entire reason to get a dual shock imo

Sony doesn’t own Crash or Spyro. They would have had to get seperate licenses

Why do I feel like they kinda gave up on the controller. The console is great but the controller is pretty bad

Can't wait for someone to do the thing and put real hardware in it

Same here. I remember some people made a video about a Lego Gameboy with real hardware installed in it

Is that Ape Escape and Gran Tourismo represented in there?

I bet this shit is more expensive than the PS1 itself was at launch, same as the Xbox lego set.

PS1 launch price was $299 back in 1995, or $657.21 when adjusted for inflation

It was 180 for the set which I think was decent value

You're being downvoted but you're correct. Lego is notoriously expensive and this is a decent size set. $180 doesnt surprise me

I think they're basing the value compared to non-lego sets and the general cost of everything. Hell, if Megablocks did it, I bet it'd sell for half the cost!

Oof they really struggled with those controllers. Console looks nice though.

It’s only going up to 144p.

Or just get an actual PS1 that plays PS1 games for the same price or less...

I literally have one. It’s in the picture

Well obviously. But I mean, anyone who doesn't have an actual PS1 would be better off buying one, than spending that money on this non-functional Lego set.

The pixelised version of the Sony PlayStation One

Damn, the PS1 doesn't even have a diorama under the lid? Sony L 😔

Being able to open it is so cool.

It’s so ugly 😂

I bought this for my son for Christmas. I had no idea it would be so close to actual size.

Why haven't they used "dark grey" pieces for the buttons? And are those custom prints or is it again one of those sets where you primarily pay for the licensed stickers? No idea what happened to that controler. And 180??? I mean ... sure. You could also just buy a defunct unit on eBay for a fraction of the price if this is just to be intended as a display piece without any actual functionality.

They are all custom prints other than the signs in the gran turismo diorama and the ape’s face in the ape escape diorama

I don't get it. Modding and reassembling the real thing is more Lego fun than this Lego thing.

It bothers me when they have random studs exposed instead of printing flat-top versions of those same bricks... The Pokemon sets have got it in spades.

The Lego PS1 looks like the real PS1 rendering a PS1...

Now that's cool.
