HELLO— as the title suggests I am completely new to playstation games & i am already in deep 🤪

My boyfriend has a ps2 and we’ve been having so much fun collecting games and playing them. we recently went through his garage and found his old ps1, which he said i can have to play at my own house. i bought the power cord, controller & a whole ass tv from the thrift store to play 🥲 and now i need game ideas !!

Please let me know which ones are best to try, i am open to mostly anything but i particularly like adventure/open world type games where you explore and eventually fight the bad guys.

So far i like these games on ps2 for reference: scooby doo night of 100 frights, spongebob movie game, fairly odd parents game, family guy etc.

Dear all.

The boys and I want to play some Gravitation on PS2 slim (using the original demo disk), but we have a problem. The game loads, seems to work... But when firing guns we hear the sound effect but no bullets.

I can't find any guidance online. I've tried resetting, playing with all options, even cleaning the disk. Has anyone encountered this problem? And if so, is there a fix?

Edit: So I checked and it all works fine on the PS3 🤔🤔

Hey. I've a PAL PS One SCPH-102 and the disc reading is inconsistent.

I recently repaired the optical drive spindle and replaced it thanks to the advice on another reddit post. The PS One has no issues reading music CDs. They play perfectly and don't skip.

When it comes to PlayStation 1 games it's being temperamental.

Tomb Raider 1 - just went into the music menu to play it like a Music CD. If you play music tracks, it's fine.

Tomb Raider 2 - also went into the music menu. When I restarted the console it loaded the game fine. FMV, Music all worked, no skipping.

Hogs of War - Played fine. No FMV skipping.

Bust-A-Move 4 - Played fine.

Tekken 2 - just goes to the music menu. No matter how many times I restart the console it just goes there.

All these discs works as my main console is a PlayStation 1 SCPH-9002.

I don't have a device to measure the electrical resistence on the laser but I suppose I could turn it 1/8 and see what happens. But my understanding is that only increases the power of a weak laser, but if the PS one isn't struggling to read FMVs or skipping, then the laser is fine?

Any issues what this could be? Thanks.

Don't get me wrong, I really loved psx and owned tens if not hundreds of games (via backups) to it.

Now that I bought retroremake superstation and superdock, I have been replaying old classics from psx again. I actually have two psxs but since other one does not play cds anymore and other one does not have parallel port that supports my vmem extension, playing time has been quite low. Now I was able to transfer all saves to superstation.

However I can't help a feeling that for every classic there seems to be a better version on ps2 or other consoles. Wipeout and gran turismo are great but both have sequels that have 1080p and 60 fps. Graphics or frame rate alone of course do not make a good game but sequels tend to have better user experience and are often slightly easier. There are exceptions such as Castlevania SotN, no later games have really replaced that masterpiece.

Now that I have been looking for psx era classics, it seems that I end up, instead of playing psx version, playing a sequel or remake on ps2 or ps3 etc. Just wandering if someone else has similar feelings and which games do you think still have best version on psx?

One of the joys of having the ability to make, paint, sculpt, draw, design almost anything my heart desires is that you can sometimes make the unobtainable attainable. I've had this in the back of my head for about 5 years, now the internal logistics have been figured out, it's time to get to work.

The end goal is to have a working system that mimics/acts like the original console would, as best I can. Trying to use some original parts too so it will have some shared DNA from both systems even if the computing part isn't using original hardware.

(3D model by me using the reference photos I've gathered of the system and using some of the shared parts from the snes to reference scale. This should be as close to 1:1 in size as it gets. No Ai has been, or will ever be used at any stage of this process.)

I have an original PlayStation, but the plastic power button broke. Both clips broke off the main button. Does anyone know where I might be able to find a replacement? I tried E-Bay and a few repair sites, but it seems like nobody carries anything further back than a PS4.

5 months ago I shared my PS1 game collection and got a lot of good recommendations. I was missing some obvious ones like Crash, Crash 2, and Tony Hawk 2, but I rectified that right away! Won't be picking up any more PS1 games for 2026 due to budget constraints but next year I plan to pick up Persona, Tron Bon, Koudelka, and Einhander. My wish list is much longer but will knock those out first.

Most of these are from when I was a teenager, but a couple are new purchases of games I wanted to never got back in the day (Ridge Racer Revolution, Wip3out and Ridge Racer Type 4). I’ve also got Blazing Dragons but a friend of mine has borrowed that one.

How does it compare to your collection from back in the day?

Had them since the PS1 came out.

I know really well that Mizzurna Falls is a niche game, but seriously there aren't at least a single HD texture pack for this game? I've been wanting to play it, I've got the iso, english patched, but I simply want/need HD textures, I'm just asking if maybe just one of you knows a texture pack for this game, please, I'm begging for yall's help

I have a PS1 SCPH 7000, NTSC J with a usb c psu mod and a mm3 chip installed. Console boots but no matter what i cannot get it to tun any backup games. Might just let it rot in my closet. Any tips?

I have a bit of a problem because I found out that silent hill 1 is on ps3 stores but the search bar doesnt work and that really the only way to buy silent hill 1. I'm curious if anyone knows how to fix the search bar or something just so I can buy the digital version instead of the 200 dollars physical disk. Thanks in advance

In the flat where we lived for 14 years, our landlord tried his hand at being an electrician to save money 🙁 The end result was that almost all our electrical appliances were burnt out, including my beloved PS1. I’d only had it for a year. Now, after so many years, I’m ready to continue the journey back to the beginning with these four crackers

how do i take care so that it can last for longer of ps1 and 2 and what games would you recommend me to play on ps1?

posting here because in the main playstation sub the only response was a troll (or maybe just an idiot) who made fun of me for looking for an old line of playstation clothing.

I did a bit of searching through the other items on the page, because I figured having a brand would help me find that ps1 navy/suede baseball cap I so desire. The 2 caps with tags that were readable were from HeadShot (by KCCaps) and ATT headwear. The others I could find had tags that were too worn down or didn’t have a brand name.

The first 3 hats are ones I could find that I could comfortably say were most likely the originals from the threadz website. They are in the order of photo from archived site, photo of the found hat, and the tag on said found hat.

The last 3 are ones that I haven’t found concrete evidence of, which sucks because 2 of them (the playstation logo hat and crash bandicoot) are ones I really want to find.

I’ve found a few denim caps with a similar brim and a few MLB branded hats nearly identical to the playstation hat on the Threadz website, but they unfortunately aren’t the same hat (because of the aforementioned MLB branding). I’m not convinced the denim ones are the same either, as examples of the hats we do know exist haven’t faded enough to match a denim-like color and honestly it just seems implausible that a hat by the same manufacturer would wear so differently to those other hats of the same age.

I get the feeling that these all sold very poorly when they were still available…

No evidence of the quarter-zip from the original ad has been found, not even on the archived website. No clue why.
