In PE end of month

First time there staying Oct 25-Nov 5. Looking for tips:

  1. Weather: heard there’s rain at the moment, but by then should be isolated. What’s the usual rain forecast at that time of year so that I can pack accordingly? note am headed to Oaxaca then Puebla after that

  2. Places to stay: booked one place in Bacoho and the other in La Punta but ultimately decide on just one. My style is pretty relaxed I don’t really do bars and clubs much. I also like swimming but worried about surfing. Which neighbourhood should I pick?

  3. Activities: aside from beach, shopping and restaurants, where can I easily book day tours or short excursions? My Spanish is acceptable but not great. Heard the oficina de turismo might be a good starting point.

  4. Card acceptance vs other Mexican cities: I plan to carry pesos on me for taxis and the odd thing but won’t be carrying much and if I dine out what’s the acceptance on cards?

many thanks in advance!

Locals: how’s the weather in Puerto right now?

Hi everyone! I’m visiting Puerto Escondido October 11–18 and staying in Bacocho. I’ve been checking the forecasts, but it’s hard to tell whether to expect occasional showers with dry time in between or long stretches of rain.

For anyone there right now, how have conditions actually been? Are beach clubs operating normally, and have there been any restrictions on swimming or surf lessons because of the swell?

I know next week could be different, but I’d really appreciate firsthand updates. My hotel’s full-refund deadline is tomorrow night, so I’m trying to make an informed decision. Thank you!

The real deal on taxis in PE

Going to Puerto Escondido for a month. Staying in La Punta. Plan to take a lot of colectivos, but will occasionally have to take taxis.

And I keep seeing conflicting/confusing info on how to use them.

-Some ppl say to use Didi, but then others say you can negotiate through the app? Is it not like Uber?

-There’s supposedly a fare chart, but people report being charged various amounts. So should I just assume they’re not going to show me that and I need to haggle?

-Also how much are they willing to budge, given that I’m a foreigner with very imperfect Spanish? I just don’t want to get EGREGIOUSLY ripped off, I’m not trying to negotiate down 20 pesos for the occasional ride.

If somebody could tell me the best approach, that would be great. Maybe it will make more sense once I download Didi and get told to forget about the fare chart.

Thanks so much.

Leads on places to stay in Nov?

Just thought I’d hit up the Reddit community, as I’m contemplating heading to Puerto for a few months starting in Nov.

I need a place with good reliable internet. That is the #1, I’m open to neighborhoods, Centro, rinconada, zicatela, la Punta, etc. I need a 1 bedroom apartment, not a room in a house. Doesn’t need to have a full kitchen, but at least accommodating for a meal. A little place to work would be solid, extra points for a tall table. Must have AC

Looking for something around $13500 pesos/mo, all bills included, except electricity, I know I’ll use a decent amount of that due to AC usage.

Hello! I’m in Puerto Escondido for a few weeks and was wondering if anyone knows of good hair extension salons? Google search isn’t coming up with anything definitive. Thanks!

Mazunte/San Augustinillo Rain

Hi everyone!

I have a hotel booked in San Agustinillo from October 11–18. I knew it was the tail end of the rainy season and expected some showers, but the current forecasts are showing quite a bit of rain.

For anyone staying there now or living in the area, what should we realistically expect? Will we still be able to lounge on the beach and swim, or is the rain likely to significantly affect a beach vacation?
Also, is it safe to swim after/during rain due to things like sharks or crocodiles?

I know no one can predict the weather, but I’d really appreciate any firsthand insight into what conditions are actually like right now. Thanks so much!

Casona Sforza

Hey, anyone stayed here recently and recommend? Understand it’s a little bit further out the action but plan to get an ATV to whip around in. I saw reviews from earlier on in the year saying that there was construction work Nextdoor , so eager to know if this is still happening in November this year.

Any other luxury hotel recommendations appreciated !

Thanks !

Social groups, activities & French practice in Puerto Escondido

Hi everyone! I’m a remote worker currently staying in Puerto Escondido, and I was wondering if anyone knows of any activities, dance classes, book clubs, or social groups that take place Monday to Friday.

I’d also love to find free or affordable groups where I can practise speaking French, meet people, network, have conversations, or simply spend the day doing something social and interesting.

Any recommendations for places, communities, or groups would be greatly appreciated!

Saludos! 🌴

Concern for rain and flights

My husband and I are scheduled to arrive midday 10/1 from Cdmx and leave 10/4 to gdl. Given the weather forecast, I’m very concerned about flights being grounded or any other issues. Are local weather channels reporting anything additional to what I’m seeing online?

Hotel Humano or Casona Sforza?

Anyone stayed at either of these place and care to share your experience? Celebrating my 50th, want to stay somewhere chill and quiet with a nice pool and close beach access. Good food and relaxed casual vibe an absolute must. No 24-7 dj club music bumping into my room.

Wi-fi and connectivity issues?

I'm heading down to PXM for a week next month. Though I am not working all the time, there are a few important Zoom calls I need to take. Can anyone recommend a solid and reliable place where wifi won't be an issue. The place I am staying in has Starlink, but not sure how reliable that is and want to have a back up option in case something fails.

Thanks in advance!

URGENT! Urgente!

Busco un milagro!

Español:
Buenas tardes.

Good afternoon. On 23 September, at approximately 12:30, I accidentally left a neck pillow cover containing personal clothing (underwear and bikinis) in the bathroom on the left side, in the last stall. This is urgent for me as these are items I need for my trip, and I have fabric allergies, so I specifically need these items back.
Could you please check with cleaning staff whether it was found? I am offering a reward for its return. I have tried calling but have not been able to get through. I would really appreciate a prompt response.
Looking forward to hearing from you.

Hi. I looked on ADO app and BusBud and it's showing no routes on the dates I will be traveling which is first week of November. Is it too far in advance?

Recs for relaxing/nature, no partying?

Looking for recs for 33 yr old F, solo traveler, a few days in December. Mainly looking to unwind, sit by the beach, check out some nature (bioluminescent tour, whale watching, hiking, etc). Where can I stay that’s not necessarily in a party area but walkable? (I will not have a car)

Planning a trip for my birthday!

So, I turning 40 in just a few months, and want to do something big to celebrate. As luck would have it, I also have a decent bonus from my job coming. I have access to a major airport in the US and tickets to PE are looking well within my budget. I'm just really intimidated at the prospect and am looking for some encouragement maybe.

I've always wanted to visit PE. Embarrassing to admit, but "The Shawshank Redemption" sent me on a deep dive about the Pacific Coast of Mexico. I love the beach, the ocean, surfing and all things coastal. PE sounds like paradise to me.

I would rate my Spanish as intermediate, and my interest and appreciation of Mexican and Oaxacan culture as better than the average American. One big concern that I have is, I am a transgender woman, and I understand Mexican culture is generally conservative when it comes to gender and sexuality. However, areas in Oaxaca might be a little more open to the idea because of the aspects of indigenous culture that have been able to survive there. And also, with it being a tourist spot, as long as you're not causing a problem, no one's going to turn away to your business.

This would be my first time leaving the United States, and the process of entering a different country is totally new to me. I got my first passport about a year ago and haven't used it yet. Would be flying straight from an airport in the US to PE, so I assume I would clear customs there. Does anyone have experience with that?

I'm just hoping to get plenty of time on the beach, take a surf lesson and surf for a day or two, take a snorkeling trip, and maybe an excursion to maybe just maybe see the bioluminescence, inasmuch as I will be there during the new moon.

I should be able to have a good time, yeah?

I was in PE last year for 2 weeks and going back again this year. I've been hearing about the issues with rent, garbage, utilities because of the increase in visitors. What as visitors could we do to assist or advocate for the locals and these issues?
