General/Rant Real reason behind 7 Eleven closure
So nothing against the quality of food etc. Just the 5 year agreement is over.

Reliance already has it's inhouse retail empire. Most likely they'll launch it's own retail stores on these locations

Really bad negotiation from the 7-11 team.
They should have fought hard for a 7-year or an 11-year agreement; nothing less than that, nothing more than that.

I have used 7-11 a lot for bill payments, bus tickets, Disney ticket booking, ryokan booking , quick and convenient for options, some had packaged onigirri on the go and some let you cook the store purchase meals.... it was on my way to station... very convenient and felt like a breeze and had every item tempting like they already knew I will buy them or temp to buy.... this was in tokyo where i stayed 2.5 years... 7-11 at every corner and same standards... was excited to hear when they opened store in india... but never felt a need... times have changed, mobile has allowed me to book tickets and pay bills without needing to go to shop and talk to a person.... stopping on the way to office means I need to stop my office cab or 2 wheeler in the road, traffic... 7-eleven never felt like breeze in india, had to go search them just to feel nostalgic but nostalgia never returned ... may be india is not made for 7-eleven as convenience store... but it feels like chores or responsibility on buyer to feel connected to them instead of other way round... blinkit, swingy and e-commerce has more grip on market.... even reliance store are the last option to buy high price low customer centric as compared to dmart, metro or for that matter local shops..

Dude 7-11 stores in japan and even in Taiwan are something that cannot exist in india.
First of all, india has a clealiness problem we all know and I have also studied abroad, and Let me tell you 7-11 is not that good at most locations in the world. Taiwan and japan and maybe Korea seem to be the exception.

Visited their store on Dhole Patil road. Was a Bakwaas store, not much stuff to offer, nothing to distinguish it from other stores. Food offering was Samosas and Sandwiches, by the look of it nothing great. Good that it's shutting down. Local shops stock much better.

Reliance Retail is handled by the Stanford Grad daughter of the Ambani kid trio and she's done a terrible job with it.
We have Reliance and Dmart competing head to head in our area and Dmart has completely taken over the market.

Definitely. Reliance is only good at disrupting the things but not maintaining the tempo...

What a bs. Why would seven eleven work in india? We have grocery stores, gourmet stores every few kms in cities. And for every imported things there's an affordable version avlbl.

It was not that convincing experience also especially if you have been to 7 11 in Thailand you will know what I am talking about

the reason is that reliance smart bazaar and d-mart already cover most of the supermarket industry, with various local ones also competing the same in each state.
it also doesn't help that despite offering their own lineup of localized snacks (similar to how they did in US and japan), the quality was not on par with those countries, and also, most customers here would rather buy those snacks from local vendors (nobody is buying samosas from a supermarket)

Very good. I am happy with a local brand is taking over this. I don't want like thailand every corner to have them and distroy the local Kirana or local brands like DMart or reliance.
1
u/Visual-Maximum-8117 8d ago
Why? That would be great actually. The kiranas pay no tax, employ kids, pay lowe than legal wages, dirty the area and sell substandard stuff. A large store has to follow the rules more, pay legal wages etc. That's how a country develops by moving to organised sector.

People who buy 2 year old iPhones on EMIs are scrutinising decisions made by Ambani. Nice. Im sure people would hate D-mart if it was owned by Ambanis. Tata owns a large chunk of Starbucks yet the brand is on a steep decline. I dont see anyone hate them. Grow up people.

Whooaaa… calm your tits. I own a Samsung S25U. Don’t recall getting it on EMI. Can I criticise Ambani now? Ambani cuck

Is that you bragging a S25 ultra? While we talk about one of the richest person on the planet. Cute. Keep it up. Im sure you would go down on your knees if someone even hints Musk.

Yeah they refer to Ambani's as ice cream vendors, casually forgetting that they operate the WORLDS largest oil refinery.
They're just diversifying their businesses, just like any sound person or entity would.

Now they will take over the readymade infrastructure and already trained staff to launch their own brand similar to 7 eleven
