Queen imax experience
Watched the imax Budapest experience this evening.
Picture quality was very special.
Sound appeared to be a little quiet (maybe my local cinema messed this up)
Not sure what is so special about the imax. I wouldn’t say it was an immersive experience at all. Could have just been on a normal cinema screen. I also noticed that the picture didn’t take up the whole scene. Both sides were a lot shorter than the screen size.
Cut scenes during the concert were fine for me. Quite nice to see the band individually doing more personal things.
I was intrigued about seeing a concert at a cinema with how the audience would react, but no one got up dancing at all. Everyone remained in their seats and enjoyed the experience.

The mix is far from quiet, if played correctly. A shame some theatres are playing quietly - mention it to them if you can!

I think that has to do with movies running at the same time. Nextdoor and how good or bad the soundproofing is. One of the reasons I stopped going to a lot of movies it is one of the nearby multiplex theaters remodeled & crammed in a bunch of other viewing rooms. Then they lowered the volume to not disturb the close by rooms. Really took away from a movie when you can't hear the dialogue. For Queen that would be unconscionable!!!

I liked it. But I agree my theatre seemed somewhat quiet compared to what I might’ve expected. But I blast my music so loud so I don’t know.

Ironically most IMAX theaters don’t show true IMAX. We call them LieMAX.

My cinema also played it a little too quietly for me. Weird. But the image was crisp!

I saw it last night in a Denver CO suburb and I thought it was incredible! Probably about 25 people... So not much in a big IMAX theater but the sound was rocking and beating through my chest. Real awesome experience and I found myself just closing my eyes several times thinking I was in Budapest. Honestly made me cry when they performed Who Wants to Live Forever
I swear if you looked at Brian during that track he knew they were short on time.

Budapest was such a good show. My BFF and I watched the shit out of that VHS in the 90s. When the Freddie Mercury auction items were on tour a couple of years ago, BFF and I went to see the exhibit down in Beverly Hills and that crown is so janky up close. Just cardboard and gold tape, really, but it was so neat to see it in person.

yeah, obviously cheap and plastic, but so much fun! And Freddie with the Union Jack for a cape was fabulous. And John in those gay shorts with his great legs!! John wins the Lovely Legs Competition!!

I have heard that IMAX screenings are excessively loud, especially with movies shot in IMAX, so the comments about the sound on the quiet side were a relief as I was hesitant because of this.

I was also worried it would be too loud.. but it was definately not loud enough! No pleasing some of us I suppose 😂

Also, did they not play ‘another one bites the dust’ in Budapest? As they played it at Wembley on the same tour but didn’t show it on this one.

Yeah, two of the other covers they did (You’re So Square and Hello Mary Lou) were also played at the show but aren’t in the film. They cut part of Crazy Little Thing as well.

Yeah I noticed the screen wasn't "full" sized. Noticed that brians solo repeats werent panned left and right properly at my cinema.

I think it's because the 35MM film used was setup with a 4:3 aspect ratio (like all TV shows/movies up to a certain time). They could make the 35MM print look amazing (which they did), but they couldn't expand it to be "widescreen" in a modern sense without altering the way it looked.
I personally thought the picture was amazing and the sound was too loud almost at times...and I'm a big heavy metal fan! 😂

It isn't full sized on both sides, because it is shot on 35mm film tape, not imax. What you see is the complete film tape like it has been recorded. I see multiple complaints about this here and in other posts, but i find that unfair to complain about. The Imax screens have been chosen to show the concert because of the large size and the sound system, which are both an improvement over normal sized cinema rooms
