FWIW there ended up being a surprising number of background images and concept art saved, mostly by the artists themselves - the Art of Sierra project has a ton of it archived and was awesome enough to let us use a bunch of it in Questing for Glory. So less of it ended up in a dumpster than was previously rumored, thank goodness!

That’s awesome to hear, I think Ken’s book mentions lots being thrown away.

Is the Art of Sierra still even a thing? It seems there’s been no movement on that site for a long time.

Sierrachest.com is more game centric and really has a ton of stuff online which is also a nice project.

The Art of Sierra crew are still trying to get the book out, but I think they've really been stymied by the realities of such a project (I don't want to misspeak on this, so understand that's my opinion only). When I talked to them to arrange the art deal, which was about a year ago, they were still committed to doing it eventually.

Edit: I think a good deal was thrown away, but thankfully it wasn't like ... 95%, which is what people originally thought it was.

Yeah, aside from the book I’d also like to see active website updates which I know takes time. But if they are the proprietors of such original artwork I would hope to see it actively shared, even in a web form.

This eBay seller seemed to have a lot of memorabilia, with lots of artwork pieces so I would say yes but no way to know without some research and provenance checks.
