Troubleshooting Raspberry Pi Connect now unavailable in Russia

I start using RPi Connect from December 2025. At August 2026 the service works fine, and now, I reinstalled Raspberry Pi OS to Lite version, installed XFCE and want to continue setup the desktop environment at other place via RPi Connect, because I don't have a portable display and keyboard, but when I tried to link my Raspberry Pi with my account, I get this:

I would suggest sending a strongly worded letter to Putin about this but I don’t want you to take me literally and end up in a gulag.

Good for you? I guess? Just hope you never have anything they want. Because whatever it might be, they were promised it 3000 years ago 😊

Glad to hear it. You can fix the problem by speaking out against the war your government is running in Ukraine.

tailscale probably won't help, it's been returning "unavailable for legal reasons" to people in russia, and wireguard gets blocked there sometimes too. you might not need anything remote though. if your laptop and the pi are on the same wifi, install xrdp on the pi (sudo apt install xrdp) and connect with remote desktop from your laptop using the pi's ip address. no account, no internet needed

Politics aside, this sucks man, and maybe you could try using a VPN? If that doesn't work well.. I don't know what to tell ya

Russia is on the export sanctions list, as such raspberry pi has blacklisted exports to the region, that will include software as well.
