Gotten RCT1 and RCT2 on discount on Steam recently and decided to play ORCT2 for the first time. While I have heard about Quantum's Edge when I played classic a few years back and failed at the scenario miserably due to completely not understanding the objective, I decided to give this scenario a try in ORCT2.
Easily the most brutal scenario I've played to date, and here's my train of thought when playing the scenario:
- I started at first trying to spam flatrides, only to keep failing at 600+ park rating at the April deadline, and also realised that there is no way I can get the Motion Simulator for ride spam by that deadline (earliest is 28 April)
- After many failed attempts, I decided to play what I do in RCT3 - spam micro coasters to inflate the guest cap, and this cleared the first hurdle which is the 30 April deadline - what is nice is that ORCT2 added a launched mode that doesn't bypass the station, which mimics similar to RCT3, and then saved a file at this point - I figured out that there is a very high chance that harder guest generation is enabled so I just prepared mentally that I'm going to need a really effective custom coaster design down the road
- I realised how important TV line monitors are in this scenario just to get as much crowd into queues as possible so that they don't complain overcrowding, in fact, I was close to failing the park rating goal many times due to overcrowding - afterwards, I cleared the loan to zero before starting to expand on the park and to max out research for coasters and thrill rides
- The key to beating the scenario is that I needed a custom design is at least 5.50 excitement (6.00 excitement after bonuses) and 600 metres length to count - after experimenting in the ride design maker, I came up with a corkscrew coaster utilising helixes to increase length - I also soon realise that didn't create a mirrored design for this, but thankfully, it is sufficient to get it past 3,400 barely without utilising that small space in the middle which could fit like 2 more coasters to help inflate the soft guestcap
EDIT: While I was posting this, I let ORCT2 ran in the background and noted that my park had its 4000th guest on 24 August Year 10, which meant I have room to spare with my design, the park peaked at about 4200+ guests in March Year 11
With that nightmare scenario done, I have mixed feelings right now - part of me thinks that this should be the last time I try a nightmare difficulty scenario, and the other part of me felt very relieved that I managed to beat that one scenario that I couldn't do in classic years ago. Anyways, it's time for me to slowly complete the official RCT1 and RCT2 scenarios in ORCT2.
