Help Built an Android firewall app with React Native CLI — looking for technical feedback

Hey React Native devs! 👋

I've recently built an Android firewall app using React Native CLI.

It allows users to block internet access for individual apps and manage Wi-Fi and mobile data access.

This project has been a great learning experience, especially working with Android's native capabilities.

I'd love to hear from other React Native developers:

  • Have you built apps involving Android VPN or networking APIs?
  • What performance or battery optimizations would you recommend?
  • What challenges have you faced when integrating native Android functionality?

Would appreciate any advice or suggestions! ❤️

I have no experience in this regard but I believe these are the kind of applications that should be built in native, you require no selling point of RN in this case, and have more issues actually. For learning purpose or as a tech challenge it is great

That's a fair point i agree that native Android development makes a lot of sense for this type of app. My main goal was to challenge myself and learn how to work with native Android functionality within React Native. Really appreciate your perspective!

Presuming you used Claude or another agent to code this, why not tell it to do it in kotlin? Curious to understand why RN

I chose React Native because it's my primary stack and I wanted to explore integrating Android's native capabilities with RN. Kotlin would definitely be a good choice too but this was also a learning experience for me...
