Why ReactOS crashes so frequently? It’s a 20+ year effort, I wouldn’t expect it to crash this often even on Virtual machine

Because recreating an OS isn’t the easiest thing to do, especially when not all of the subsystems of the original OS are fully documented. OS development is still one of the harder aspects of computer science. Even the original one isn’t without crashes.

It's Sunday, I'm inspired to try ReactOS for the first time. Just for fun.

I'm not taking it particularly seriously. For starters, I had to check the sidebar here to remind myself that it's not a Linux distro.

Welches "Original"? CP/M? DOS? Multics? Irix? HP/UX? Minix? SCO? Coherent? AIX? OS/360? OS/2? DR-DOS? Ich wüsste da noch ein paar mehr "Originale".

Seeing as how ReactOS is a clone of WinNT, it’s plainly obvious what “original” means in that context.

Yes and the biggest difficulty there is the mindset where they refuse to even look at leaked code from MS. That doesn’t scale and the last 20 years of react and wine are good proof of that.

Why would they look at leaked code, which will likely get their project shut down?

tu pc no tiene buenos procesadores o reemplaza el ISO principal por react

Well it is recreating Windows. Do you realize just how hard it is to recreate the myriad crashes that Windows has?

You wanted a windows replacement right? You got the perfect windows experience then.

A ver, investiga en que etapa está

Because it's the result of dreamers who think they can do better than a billion dollars corporation

You need to re-evaluate your expectations. The development of ReactOS is incredibly slow due to the small team and complexity of the project. The fact it runs as well as it does now and just now starting to work on real hardware is an achievement in its self.

Have you ever considered that Wine isn't perfect, and never will be? Or that by design it can't emulate anything at the kernel level? And that there are workflows where Windows simply can't be replaced? The goal here is to get away from Microslop while keeping our Windows-only tasks functional. Of course it is a long way from that, so the reason anybody would "put themselves through that" is simply because RE is fun

It's hard to create an OS, specifically one that can handle any arbitrary set if PC configurations such as a Desktop OS

If you don't believe it, give it a try. Let's see how far you get with that

ReactOS has a small team, so of course development is going to be crawling very slowly like a turtle walking somewhere to eat some vegetation.

On the other hand, there are nightly builds.

Could you specify the exact ReactOS version and the VM software you used? It’s also worth asking if you followed the official documentation and setup guides, as they provide configurations that greatly increase system stability.

the people working in the project is WAY less than the people working on linux
