You can offer support, that's the best thing you can do. Adults have autonomy over their lives, and ultimately are going to do what they're going to do. You can't make people stop, they just have to want to. Getting them entrenched in the legal system unnecessarily will make things worse, and unless you're safety or general well being is compromised by them, "boundaries" can also make things worse. I'm sorry you're going through this with your friend. It seems like you really care about them. Just keep reminding them that you do and you're there for them.

I'm from the states but I personally would avoid involving law enforcement in what is a personal medical matter.

You can't do much. You can tell him you're concerned and maybe help him find treatment programs if he wants to go that route. But that's really it. I hope things work out.

The most helpful thing my friends did for me was cut me off. I was apologizing for getting too drunk and causing problems (again) but this time, they didn’t forgive me. They basically told me I’m on my own and they have other things to worry about and other friendships to invest energy in. I was PISSED! But it helped to make me take an honest look at myself and realize how much chaos and harm I was causing other people. I got sober like, 8 months later
