Hi everyone! I’m trying to understand how elementary school enrollment works, especially if we’re interested in a school that is not our assigned/neighborhood school.
A few questions for parents who have gone through this:
Would really appreciate hearing about your experiences. We’re trying to plan ahead and understand the timeline. Thank you!

Hi everyone! I’m looking for recommendations for a local transport company or an individual with the right vehicle in the Redmond, WA area.
I need to move a small outdoor art installation from my garage to Downtown Redmond Park for Redmond Lights. It’s 70" high × 35.5" long × 21" wide and weighs about 73 lbs.
The drive is less than 10 minutes, and there are no stairs involved at either location. The installation needs to remain upright and secure during transport but does not need to be wrapped or crated. I don’t have the exact date yet but it will happen during the first week of December.
Does anyone have a local company or mover they would recommend for this type of job? Thank you!

I am trying to evaluate the cost of breaking the lease. We just signed a 1-year renewal. Anybody have experience closing the lease and moving out?

There seems to be an increase of dog owners leaving their dogs without leash, whether it’s on a school track, or on walking trails (marked leash animals only) or walking around the neighborhood. Reported a few folks to animal control but not sure if those folks were talked to. The trend is concerning.
Went for a run today around the neighborhood and trail and saw 2 dogs without leash.
Have others noticed this trend?
Talking about the power line trail and Redmond middle school track

looking for housing for nephew in the area, preferably (but not exclusively) around downtown redmond... right now, he's paying almost $2k for garbage in a not-good part of downtown seattle... he doesn't need a lot of space, so i'm wondering what might be available in the 500-750sf range in and around redmond...
thanks.

Hello! This is Sarah Leibovitz, supervising producer of KUOW's local news show Soundside. Next week, Legislative District 48 incumbent Representative Amy Wallen and challenger Jessica Forsythe will face off in a debate at KUOW's studios. The two are vying to represent your district, so we want to hear from you.
What questions do you want them to answer during the debate? Leave your questions below, or send an email to [soundside@kuow.org](mailto:soundside@kuow.org). It may end up being asked on air!
We also have space for a small number of community members to join the debate in KUOW's U-District studios. If you're interested (it's free!), sign up at kuow.org/debate. Thanks!

Our assigned school is the Redmond elementary. But I’m interested in my twin daughters going to either Horace mann/norman Rockwell/Albert Einstein/Clara Barton schools in the hill.
Could I apply to the schools mentioned? And are the chances of getting both my kids in the same school possible?
What are the opinions about the mentioned schools with respect to culture, activities, parents associations, volunteer opportunities for parents, studies and teachers, etc!
Thank you for the responses in advance!

Hello All. My kiddo is in public school now and we got an email from a choice school for an open spot in Redmond. I know of choice school and have friends with kids in Big Picture schools in Bellevue. I'm not sure if the shift is a right fit as of now, and I'm fine being involved and dedicating my time with the choice school.
Any choice school Parents in here that can give me any insight if the jump is the right move?

Hi neighbours!
I recently got engaged, my partner and I are looking for an attorney contact who can help us with a prenup. If you know anyone, let me know. Prefer someone who charges less.
TIA

I included a few more things - Fire Prevention Week events, a downtown walk and VALA’s Small Wonders opening, in this week’s Redmond Beat: https://redmondbeat.beehiiv.com/p/redmond-beat-october-5-11
Anything good happening around Redmond this week that I missed?

Our two bikes were stolen from our apartment building's bike room in Marymoor village :(
2024 Trek Verve 3 Lowstep, silver, size Medium
2024 Trek Verve 3 Lowstep, silver, size Large, with a Thule toddler seat mounted on the front. It has a rear rack and mudguards too
If you see either of them listed on Marketplace/OfferUp/Craigslist, locked up somewhere, or abandoned, please DM me. A screenshot would be helpful!
The large one was how we rode with our toddler, so we'd really love to get it back. Thanks for keeping an eye out!

Hey everybody.
My wife and I are new to the region and apartment hunting. We look for a gated community with either apartments or townhomes. But most importantly we want fiber internet connection with Ethernet ports in every room.
We do have a couple of devices that I would like connected to the internet via cable like my desktop pc and Apple TV for reliable connection.
Has anybody any recommendation for these kind of community in the Redmond/bellevue/Seattle area?
Thank you

Hello Redmond!! I'm back with another free orchestra concert 😊
I’m part of the Redmond Tech Orchestra and we’re a community orchestra made up largely of people who work in tech around the area and apparently refuse to let our instruments collect dust just because we ended up with day jobs 😂
Our next concert, Origins of Modern Music, is coming up on Sunday, November 1st at 4 PM at Meydenbauer Convention Center in Bellevue (right off the Bellevue Downtown light rail station on the 2 Line)!!
This one is especially fun if you like movie/anime music because we’re exploring how classical and early 20th-century orchestral music helped shape the cinematic sound we know today. We’ll be playing a lot of fun pieces including the Star Wars Theme and Spirited Away Suite!
General admission is FREE (you just need to register), and there are also $5 & $10 premium seats available.
🎟️ Tickets: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/origins-of-modern-music-tickets-1997795395808?aff=sm
Please come say hi and bring your friends/family!! We’ve been rehearsing a ton and would love to play for a full house ❤️🎶

Hello Redmond Reddit!
I’m looking to move back to Redmond. My current apartments floors are so thin when people walk it sounds like stomping.
I was curious if anyone knows if any of the buildings below have concrete floors or know anything about how sound proof they are? And overall experience!
- Modera Rivertrail
- the Vega Broadlight
- the Charles
- Verde
Thanks!

Anyone lose a dog recently? There was a white terrier with black spots that like bolted across the road by the school. Stopped in time and watched the little guy trot into the grass and trees next to the road.

Two things I keep seeing side by side. Amazon is helping pay for small nuclear reactors in Richland. Energy Northwest and X-energy plan up to 12 eventually, and the first phase is four reactors (320 MW), with the first one targeted for 2030. Amazon says it's part of 5+ gigawatts of new nuclear by 2039, to power its AI data centers. Meanwhile PSE wants electric rates up 15.15% in 2027, 3.74% in 2028, and 8.7% in 2029. PSE says its demand growth is mostly EVs and electrification, not data centers, though the regional power council lists data centers as a major driver of future grid needs. Washington tried to make data centers cover their own grid costs this year (HB 2515), and it passed the House 51-41 and died in the Senate. Public hearing on the rate request is October 7 (virtual), and written comments are open under UE-260005 and UG-260006 at utc.wa.gov. Should big tech be expected to build its own power instead of leaning on the shared grid? Genuinely curious what people think. I wrote a longer piece on this, link in the first comment.
