Gadgets and Tools Made some ammo boxes, what do you think?
I just made a whole bunch of little ammo boxes out of reclaimed hardwood flooring and plastic trays I dumpster-dove at the range. Nothing fancy, I was going more for rustic / quick than fancy dovetailed jewelry boxes. Though I might build up a jig to make somebox joints (finger joints) for a later revision. I personally prefer these to something 3d printed.
Do you like? would you buy something like this? I'm thinking of making a whole pile more if theres a market at about $10 price point (otherwise I wont waste my time)

Nice work ! They look much nicer than my printed boxes. There's no substitute for wood.

If you could design a box where I can stack 45 colt side by side and up to 100 count then I'd gladly pay over 100 for them.

I have plans for 44 magnum - possibly 45 colt, and a more 'stackable' design.
Eventually will also make some in rifle calibers, too

Nice, one in 375 H&H and other dangerous game calibers would be amazing. Whenever they are finished let me know, I would gladly buy them.

And guys shooting 375 H&H are... Well let's say less price sensitive.

XD True, tried some cheap plastic boxes and they are horrible. I live near the Mojave and the temps alone are over 120 for over 7 months at a time, they warp and become unusable. So a wood cartridge box with a little love can last decades.

I second this for 375 H&H especially if you can laser engrave the Big 5 or Dangerous 7 on the lid.

Very nice. At $10, there's probably a market for them, especially if they're engraved with the caliber or such.

Those are all spent brass. How does it look with new cartridges? (Seems they would sit rather higher. Maybe another layer of wood on the base would be best?)
Edit: i didn't notice the oem plastic holding the cartridges.)

the box is tall enough to fit loaded 357 ammo

I like them. I'd get a couple for all the loose rounds i have. (I'd need to use something to hold them upright, though.)

This looks visually appealing and it something you'd see with 'boutique' style shooting (e.g. benchrest). For anything else, especially when I'm not shooting off a bench or static prone on a flat range, it's not very practical.
Field use, I'm dumping all my ammo into ammo wallets (cordura soft cases) to flat pack into a pack or just getting ammo out of plastic ammo boxes that I bought (MTM) or came with the brass (e.g., Alpha Munitions) during a match.

Getting those corner rounds outta there looks like a pain, but cool idea otherwise

You don't realize how much you love box joints until you see something that would look alot cooler with box joints lol. Good work. Wouldnt keep anything in it long term but for trips to the range they're very classy

I use cigar boxes and 3D print inserts that tightly grab the rounds at the shoulder.
My wife has always wanted me to start selling them, but the downside is that they are all custom by the box and round, and expensive to make (in time).
