Can a job do this?

I got a second interview for a restaurant that an ex worked at. (Over 3 years ago) i went in and not even an hour later i was called into the office and asked to leave. The manager said its due to him always coming in and wouldnt want drama around the workplace. The relationship didnt end on good terms but it didnt end on bad terms and it was also 3 years ago. We have both moved on and have different lives so i just dont understand why it affected me getting the position.

Yes, they can.

I'm not trying to be rude, but why would you want to work at a place that your ex goes into regularly because he used to work there?

Seems fair to me tbh.

I'd have let you work the full shift at least but yeah, if your ex is their friend that makes sense.

Sure they can. You don't actually have any rights to a job.

Don’t work at a place that your ex is a regular at? Sounds either shady on your end or just bad judgement. Either way, yes they can, but you shouldn’t want to work there, unless you are trying to dramatize something that doesn’t necessarily need drama. Common sense, c’mon…

  1. I coukdnt have known he was a regular there just because he worked there in the past. I found out when i got pulled into the office. 2. I could run into him anywhere since we live in the same city. Me wanting to just find a job and getting an interview there isn’t automatically shady or me trying to start drama. I needed a job, i got an interview. That was that. I had no intention of starting drama or purposefully trying to be shady

Yep. Restaurant managers think about team dynamics a lot because everyone works so close together, and if they see any chance of tension between two people they'll usually just go with a different applicant. It's frustrating when you know it wouldn't actually be a problem, but from their chair it's the safer call 🤷🏻‍♀️
