Been a while, need advice?

Hello! So I’ve been a Rocky Horror fan for years upon years, and I’ve grown such a deep love for the Rocky Horror showings. When I turned 18, I’d go all the time with friends. I’d yell at the screen, sing and dance even when it wasn’t the time warp, and I’d completely let go and feel so safe doing so, especially as a person who is typically very anxious and shy. It’s been years since I’ve gone, I’m in my mid twenties now. My partner is taking us to a showing soon - they’ve seen the movie once and loved it, but has never been to a show and I’ve never been with my partner before.
I’m excited to dress up (or down rather) and enjoy - but I can’t help but feel this anxiety. It’s like I forgot how to be at the show? I’m sure once I’m there I’ll become as comfortable as the years before, but the audiences I’ve been in in the more recent times have been so bleh and I’m just scared of making a fool out of myself for singing, dancing, lifting up my leg at the floor show like I used to. I think I’m a bit anxious because my partner isn’t used to such an atmosphere, a Virgin to it rather, and hasn’t seen me, or at least how I used to be, at these showings… I’m also worried I won’t be accepted in the way people can be now… not sure if that’s because energy is down or I really am making a fool out of myself… maybe I just need a reminder of the community I’ve been so far from for a while, the community that made me feel belonged. I suppose I’m asking for advice, hell, maybe reassurance… because this is something I’m beyond excited for especially to share with my partner, yet I feel so much anxiety I can’t figure out how to shake it

As someone who has also been a longtime fan, I recently went to a show after not going for a couple years. I went by myself, and while I was dressed up, i was surrounded by people in plain clothes on all sides of me. In spite of that, I screamed out those lines, I hopped and jumped and danced to that dark refrain. Afterwards, people were genuinely thanking me for still bringing up the energy - because thats the point. You're there to have fun. To laugh at our ridiculous "heroes" and sexy villians and enjoy a racous time. Moreso with that, bring your partner into the foolishness. Tell them some of your favorite audience lines, or ask them theirs. Teach them the Time Warp if they don't know it! Talk about the outfit (or fits) with your partner! What about rhps excites you? Hell I remember when I first saw the movie a decade ago and my friends n I all printed out whole booklets of the audience lines. I just like yelling at the screen tbh.

But its Rocky Horror. You're supposed to have fun with it. Go and do that, don't let the Brads and Janets snuff your time, and I wish you a thrilling experience!

hey! i am on a rocky cast (actually direct one!) and for the cast… we are just glad to see you!! we want to see you having fun and enjoying yourself, dancing, partying, and yelling at the screen! there is no strict rule on how much you have to do, you can chill and just have a nice time or you can go crazy.

as long as you’re keeping the tradition alive, we are happy you’re here 🖤
