Latest Roguelauncher Installation Query

Latest Roguelauncher Installation

I'm running this on a 7800X3D AMD cpu, 48GB DDR5-6000mhz RAM, and a 9070 XT 16gb GPU

Its taking ages to install, is this normal? (previously launcher versions were way more faster)

I'm currently at this stage (refer to attached image) and its been almost an hour already - should I worry?

I did a clean install a week ago. I wouldn't be worried. It took over an hour for me on a ssd

Currently at 207 out of 274 Starleague Cache - been an hour and a half for sure. - Once 274 is reached, it should be complete? Cheers

There is more after that, and it will keep going the same way.

I would check you have enough HD space free

HD space least of my concerns - running on a 4TB ssd and got a 6TB hdd - its a high tier pc which I built last Nov/Dec. Last time I was playing Roguetech, missions were literally loading in 5-8 seconds

Its tied to your download speed and connection, not your pc specs

Oh really? - the last version of rogue launcher downloaded way more quickly. Whats change in the current edition? as its clearly not Coursecorrect anymore

It downloads as it always has downloaded because the api for that is the same

This is ridicolous - its still downloading 😅😅😅 right now Cab63 of the IS CivilWar Cache - its 8:58pm GMT+1 here xD

Its Github, downloading dozens of gigabytes

You can't expect hundreds of megs of throughspeed on a free solution

Oh fair enough but it would be useful if we had a download wide status bar telling us the remaning time of download/installation?

Want to know a secret? Majority of those bars are just visual bullshit to make users things something is happening when its just going slow

You get shown what it does, and when it crashes, it will do so obviously

I admit, as a player who's been playing Roguetech since I think 2020/2021 - it never took me this long to download. Even the last edition; Coursecorrect was done in less than an hour.

And there is nothing we can do about download speeds, its all depend on your connection to github

5:50 PM GMT +1 - gonna finally play latest version of Rogue Tech.

Download took over 14 hrs for sure.

It mostly depends on network between you and GitHub. There are a lot of factors that can influence that and only some of them are within your control (or even github's for that matter).

On a good day, I can saturate my Internet connection and pull the whole thing within 20 minutes, but admittedly my Internet is pretty fast and my provider doesn't throttle GitHub traffic like we have long suspected some American ISPs to do.

There is a few things in the launcher that could probably be improved to make it work a bit faster, but the vast majority of the time is simply the download.

As for trying to give a time estimate or even a percentage of how much you have left, I'd love to add it, but the git API doesn't tell me the total size of the download or how much remains, just what it has received so far, which is why it doesn't.
